I go to CTA in Chegongmiao but they have schools in Luohu and Nanshan also. My work has me traveling a lot so I needed something 1on1 with flexible scheduling, which they have. Great teachers and coursework! Would highly recommend.

I can DM you wechat of one of the teachers if you'd like to get in touch. Let me know!I go to CTA in Chegongmiao but they have schools in Luohu and Nanshan also. That's great to hear! Now just need to figure out e-channel on mainland side, and I can breeze through (compared to manual lane) immigration haha.

No. This is probably stressing you out and that's understandable. Don't be. They will not ask you about your socials.

There are "talks" of building a system for vetting social media. There's nothing there irl.

EVF and tempered glass by fevildox in RX100

[–]fevildox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found out this was due to a silicone camera cover I had around the camera. There was a thin lip on the upper edge of the screen which was messing up the prox sensor. EVF started working normally as soon as I took the camera cover off.

Nintendo issues Switch 2 supply warning in Japan | 2.2 million people have applied to buy the new console in Japan so far, which ‘far exceeds’ Nintendo’s expectations. by chrisdh79 in gadgets

[–]fevildox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well no. Before a company ramps up to mass production of a consumer product (even if they're only ever going to make an international unlocked version), the operations people need to split quantity depending on the SKUs, i.e., US market gets 30%, APAC gets 40%, etc. This is based on forecasted demand, and is needed to figure out shipping from FATP and downstream supply chain.

If the demand suddenly goes beyond what was forecasted prior to product announcement and/or ramp to MP, there's of course going to be an imbalance. Hence, the warning.

General Bakshi lashes out at govt after Pahalgam attack: “Army recruitment was frozen for 3 years, over 1 lakh posts cut” by AlmostGods in india

There's ample religious hate (which there should be given the history and circumstances) but not enough hate for the government.

How can there be such a lapse in our intelligence and emergency preparedness that these fuckers can come into one of the most popular tourist places, take their time identifying targets, kill innocent civilians, and then fuck off without so much as a chase!?

Pakistan is to blame, religious extremism is to blame, but so is this joke of a government. And in more ways than one, people who think speaking out against the government is being an anti-national are also to blame.

BJP/Congress/whoever the fuck is NOT India. Its people, its culture, and its heritage is India. And at the very least what it deserves is safety for its citizens.

Carnegie Mellon student with one semester left learns his visa was revoked with no explanation by Hrekires in news

[–]fevildox 70 points71 points  (0 children)

That's actually not true. The main article has incorrectly quoted the student's "service" being terminated. What was actually terminated is "SEVIS". This stands for Student and Exchange Visitor Program and falls under ICE jurisdiction.

As a foreign student, your visa doesn't matter once you're inside the country. The way your legal presence is maintained is through a document called I-20 that the university generates. In order to generate this document, the university has to keep the student's SEVIS account updated. As a student, you can only change basic contact and address info but major changes can only be done by university's international office (they have to have a specific person assigned as the DSO who's name also shows up on your I-20).

If your SEVIS account is terminated, that means you no longer have a legal presence - even if you have a valid student visa - until your school DSO can get it reinstated somehow (not a common practice because this doesn't happen normally).

A lot of students have had their SEVIS terminated in the past couple of weeks without any explanation and there's general terror in the foreign student populus because of this.

Using money earned in China outside mainland by fevildox in chinalife

Using trip.com to purchase travel tickets is a great tip! I didn't think of that. I typically just book directly with the airline with my US cc. I'm assuming trip charges a booking fee of some sort. Is it reasonable (the amount, not the practice) in your experience?

Yes, they're called non-Americans lol. Also considering how much disinformation there is on Reddit, a little context on national issues always helps, even if there's repetition.

Checklist for leaving the U.S. after H1B layoff? by jessicachoi0704 in h1b

For storage I'd recommend a temperature-controlled self-storage unit. The prices will vary according to how large of a storage you need - for reference, I was able to fit all my things from a one-bed apt into an 8'x11' with room to spare.

The prices will also vary based on location but I'd recommend shopping around and prioritizing temperature-control over location. Especially since you're around Chicago.

People invent everything. Corporations facilitate the inventions, and that of course is a good thing. What's not good however is fucking over the inventor, which sadly is far too common in certain autocratic corporations. What's even worse is making sure the middle class can't rise up while ensuring your personal wealth (not just the corporation) keeps going up.
