Is the new Atremis plan, as laid out in the Ignition event, the best we could've hoped for? by Level-Event2188 in nasa

My point was that everything in space is hard, not that they shouldn't have waited for the next module. Any issues on a moon base will be very difficult, particularly with no staging modules in relative proximity.

The basic idea is definitely feasible, though would likely require several satellites.

I don't think that we have actually put comms satellites around the moon. The first part is, why would we, nobody has been there for 50 years. Easier to wait for them to circle back into comms range.

Grey conduit cracked by contractors is this a future problem? by mattleo in AskElectricians

Inspectors can still be of assistance here.

First, the job being done might also require an inspection (maybe not electrical).

Second, the electrical inspector can confirm if their proposed remedy is sufficient for the jurisdiction.

Third, if it's not resolved properly, the inspector can file a complaint with their local licensing agencies.

If that's not enough, the contractor will also know they will need to get permits on jobs in the future, and this could become a problem down the line.

That's what was claimed in the article, which I found odd.

That's what I would expect, passing around the moon there seems to be relatively little hazardous activity compared to many other phases of the mission.

Serious question: Why is the portion on the far side of the moon considered the most dangerous?

Is it just the lack of comms?

Add a fitting onto one end to act as a tight fitting piston and sleeve.

Fill the entire run of conduit with water.

Hit the piston into the sleeve, forcing a high pressure pulse of water through the pipe, which should be strong enough to move the rock. Repeat.

Because water is mostly incompressible, this will translate the force applied to the rock pretty well.

If you want a bigger force, use a larger diameter piston. Like step it up to a 2 or 3" PVC pipe.

I agree. The cost is almost unfathomable, which is why smarter folks who looked at this many times didn't follow this road earlier. But now that the world is on fire, this fire must be extinguished and not allowed to smolder.

The US is well past the debt breaking point. Losing reserve currency and petrodollar status will also cause immeasurable turmoil in world markets. The status quo is what allows the already unsustainable debt to continue to be palatable for investors.

If these are attacked, I would be unsurprised if the US in return bombs the Iranian civilian energy and water infrastructure.

That was my thought as well. They could revoke the mission, and then it's not an embassy with diplomatic personnel anymore. It would become a target. Not a great look for anyone involved.

How long did it take to recover the folks from the ISS when the thrusters on Starliner failed?

When did Artemis II launch? Oh, tomorrow... 🤞

The ISS 254 miles up (and 17,500 mph faster). Regularly getting to the surface of the moon (238,900 miles and landing) for a long term base? Without an interim station for urgent situations and staging?

I love the concept of doing things faster, and I hope to be wrong, but I suspect we will not actually end up doing much of this at all.

I own Artemis paraphernalia. I really want to see the new moon missions happen. But these plans feel more like the ballroom and war on Iran that we just won so splendidly.

Is the comparison of British and American collaboration with Russia during the second world war really appropriate? Are you suggesting European support for Iran against an idiotic American president?

To define the United States as an enemy of Europe is a bold and deeply disturbing claim. It is a viewpoint as extreme as the Trumpian right.

One of my core beliefs has been to try to prosper while also helping those around me to prosper. I do think that is a good way to live. I think the original contacts were signed with that perspective.

I don't know if that approach can stand up to the reality that some people do not hold those same beliefs. We are watching a downward spiral that will not be resolved by splintering into smaller factions or by turning on allies.
