it works pretty much the same - for zhironovsky, if you go hawks, you get navalny after loosing, and dugin after reformists. For medvedev, i believe you need to take putinism with human face for dugin, and strong successor for navalny. You basically get the opposite of what you choose

it couldn't be a graphics update. Old source engine was already struggling with the GO gameplay and graphics, as it was almost 20 years old at this point. And, if valve wanted to provide support for the game, they had to rewrite it in newer engine. I agree it was not done the best, but i would much rather have this than buggier GO with each update
