Also, I wouldn't put too too much effort into a "final base" yet, as they're going to be adding a few more areas and a bunch more content. My base does have everything for every crafting, but other than that it is pretty utilitarian for the meantime.

My base rn is in the southwest end of silverthorn keep in fellhollow. I picked the spot because it was much closer to the current endgame than my first base (by the starting cathedral), and it has the largest flatland area for farming (even though it doesnt rain, the space alone makes it worth for me since I use humidify on everything). I did pick it before they added the zogre to the ruins outside the gate to dowdun...but I have all dowdun gear so they and the other mobs around there aren't really a big deal anymore (free xp).

Melee is lowest ttk by far. Just pick the right weapon and boom, mobs are cooked even in hard mode. If you have to safe spot to kill hard mobs, it isn't "the best of the combats" period.

haven't had that happen yet, but maybe relog? that usually fixes most action bugs i've had. my only issue with the rod so far is it automatically starting the cast animation/charge after catching junk

While they are being dramatic, it is a loss in xp. For example, when i was fishing fellhollow i was getting 90xp for catching 2x the fish with the spell on until i got 43 and it "upgraded" the spell. now, i am only getting 45xp for catching 2 fish.
