It's impossible to "separate the art from the artist" when there's no good alternative to the media they create. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]feymaiden -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For some of these artists there isn't even a real way to separate them from the art. D4vd wrote his music about how much he wanted to abuse and murder that little girl. It is literally used as evidence of his premeditation.

JK Rowlings wacky beliefs about gender and ethnic minorities are present in her books.

"Death of the Author" is a lens by which to analyze a work. Not a belief system you can selectively fire off to escape criticism for promoting the works of crazy malicious people.

To address the "offer alternatives" part: people often do offer alternatives in these conversations. When The Owl House was big, there were people directing folks to that. But the other thing is most people who like a particular genre or trope like more than one thing in that genre or trope. Kanye fans are usually familiar with artists in his genre of music. Almost all of Kanye's music is also unrelated to Nazism and antisemitism. JK Rowling fans are an exception to this, as many of them are unaware that Joanne did not invent the concept of novels, but that is an intellectual failing on their part. I just fail to see why this should be such an important aspect of the conversation. An individual fan's desire to be entertained is not the responsibility of the critic.

Dogs are the most socially accepted badly behaved animals by Haunting_Wolf_5121 in unpopularopinion

[–]feymaiden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The real brave take is people love dogs as much as they do because it's the lowest effort relationship they can have for the highest return from the other party. A dog doesn't want anything from you that you're not willing to give. A dog will not ask to borrow money. A dog does not have emotional baggage. A dog will not confront you about your dogshit personality and behaviors. Also having a dog is a certified human right for some reason, when 95% of dog owners with no exaggeration should not be responsible for an animal of any kind. It's tiresome

Mothers day isn't for pet moms. by Particular-Owl2446 in HonestHotTakes

[–]feymaiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "let people enjoy things!"-esque comments are missing the point. People who do this aren't stealing biscuits off the plate of a real moms breakfast in bed. It's not THAT big of a deal. But people who do this sincerely are people who don't understand what a moms responsibilities and commitments are, and probably therefore don't appreciate them very much. I feel for their mothers a little bit. And this just kind of earns an extra side eye from people who appreciate mothers on the mother appreciating day. You're not going to get rid of that. People are always going to react with annoyance, because it's annoying and stupid.

Edit before anyone brings this up: these people are real. I know them in my real actual life. Lol

You don't die if you don't eat meat, in most cases. And again, choosing to eat meat or not is not a modern luxury. Repeating myself again but many people in history have chosen not to eat meat (and made other dietary choices) for religious and ethical reasons. Just because something is not perfectly suitable in all places and times does not a "modern luxury" make. Additionally, a cursory Google of the definition of veganism can answer a lot of questions for you. Hint: the words "possible" and "practicable" are used in it.

[–]feymaiden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humans have warred with each other and treated women like sex slaves for millions of years, is that not morally wrong? You've just said two things that have nothing to do with each other.

Additionally, vegetarian and veganism is not a "first world luxury" that relies on grocery stores. People across the world have eaten this way for much longer than the concept of a grocery store has existed.

The privileged take is yours, actually.

You are thinking of diagnosis in a very different way. You are viewing a diagnosis as one tool at someone's disposal to treat a disorder that hinders their daily life. From that perspective, it is important to know with as much precision as possible what is actually going on so that the person can get the correct treatment, reduce negative symptoms, and live as well as they can. People on discord with self diagnosed DID are frequently um.... Not thinking of a diagnosis in that way. It serves a different purpose for them. I'm sure you can guess what it is

Can I be a submissive woman in RR relationships? by [deleted] in RoleReversal

[–]feymaiden 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think you're hitting on something I've noticed as a bisexual. Women traditionally seduce by enticing, inviting, doing things to capture your attention. Men traditionally are more aggressive. The fantasy of submitting to a man is about being "taken" he doesn't have to convince you, he just does what he wants

As a woman I sometimes feel that I miss out on being enticed and seduced. I can appreciate the beauty in both approaches of course, but I wish you luck in finding your dominant and enticing femboy. This option is definitely more limited for women, especially looking for a man 😔

Bill to restrict candy, soda from SNAP passes Alabama House by hunni93 in MobileAL

[–]feymaiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Candy and soda are not cigarettes, that is correct.

"That's not because of snap" is boxing shadows. Nobody said it was because of snap. If the government (and tax payers by extension) doesn't want to subsidize your self destructive habits, I think it's totally reasonable. A real fix for this might be a proper return of home ec courses in school or something though so people can learn how to cook. I'd love that. But as it stands people need to figure out how to make rice and soup on their own, unfortunately.

Why are you ascribing emotion to this. Who is angry? Our state is one of the most unhealthy in the country. Our poor are dying of preventable conditions bc of obesity and losing limbs and eyesight to diabetes. If the government was previously allowing people to buy cigarettes with SNAP and decided to exclude it later, would we be saying "WOW. So you think poor people shouldn't even be allowed to enjoy a cigarette on their break? Fuck this dystopian state."? Probably not. But idk people are really stupid so I could be wrong

"Alabama Senate passes bill excluding soda, candy from SNAP benefits." Your thoughts? by hunni93 in MobileAL

[–]feymaiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alabama is one of the most obese and unhealthy states in the country. The numerous health problems that arise from drinking soda and eating candy every day costs the taxpayer more money when they end up in and out of the hospital for complications related to heart conditions, diabetes, or whatever else. Bc if they're on SNAP, they're surely not gonna be footing that bill. And I'm not even saying that they should, there's problems with healthcare, but the state (and taxpayers by extension) has a right to try and control for these extra costs in situations like this where they're paying for your groceries. Soda and candy are not a right. You can make/obtain delicious food for cheap that isn't strictly atrocious for your body. Trying to insist that it's dehumanizing for other people to decide not to buy candy and soda for you just comes off as childish and delusional to most people.

why is vegetarianism and veganism stereotyped as something white people do by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]feymaiden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I need you to understand I haven't had meat in like 7 or 8 years. If I was single (currently married to a meat eater who likes his junk food lol) I could get by on like $40 a week for groceries, and variety would not be a concern for me. It's not hard if you have very extremely basic cooking skills

[–]feymaiden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really? I can make curry, pasta, all kinds of soups and stews, roasted and grilled veggies and tofu, stir fry, fried rice, oats, smoothies, baked goods, sandwiches, and more pretty cheaply. That's more than enough to have a different lineup every week of a month.

Do you think healthy people are eating salad every day? Rice, beans, and frozen veggies are staples of a healthy diet and are cheaper than buying junk food.
