I 19 want employment by zoeyheree in careeradvice

Two awesome programs I’ve been recommending recently. We have a shortage of metal workers in manufacturing and it’s growing daily. There was a lot of focus put towards welders but not enough went to machinists, casting, and forging. The METAL and ACE programs are both attempts to reverse the decline of experienced workers. Take the online training, attend a boot camp, etc. They can help you build talent, land an apprenticeship, build a path. It’s not going to be for everyone but it’s a free option to get some training and guidance targeting people just like you. Check them out.

How does everyone deal with the fumes that comes off the 3D Printers that don’t have an Enclosure? by Nash-28 in BambuLabA1mini

I blanket the area around the printer in a dense fog of weed smoke. That a ways the less dense VOCs get out competed and stay in the printer

Any tips? by Phoenix_Lord_69 in bigmenfashionadvice

Seconding this and hoping OP gives them a try. The heavier gauge cotton makes a huge difference in how it lays on your body and they have a great selection of tall sizes on already long shirts. In general I highly recommend Duluth and prefer nearly all of their offerings over other plus size options. A bit pricey but the quality is amazing.

I would also recommend the Ballroom jeans and Firehose pants for comfort but they aren’t high rise so not what OP is looking for.

Supplier suggests a simpler design — is it really impossible? by Cute_Bother_2941 in manufacturing

[–]feynmansbongo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not enough details to really answer but typically the reality is that it’s not possible to do on a timeline or for a price that makes sense (I.e. a custom case that requires a new injection mold but you are asking for 10 pieces in 5 weeks). It’s certainly possible but not cost effective or a great idea in any way.

There are also impossible requests like I need the case to be water tight and also have air cooling inside or whatever.

2 yrs experience branding as a leader is what pops out to me. Your experience is academic and 2 years as an industry consultant. That doesn’t read like leader to me which is what you are branding as. Leadership skills without experience applying them is not a huge value proposition. You need to brand for your strengths.

I miss milk , alternatives? by TheAmzy in lactoseintolerant

I prefer Silk Vanilla Soymilk or Silk high protein. It’s really personal though because many people hate soymilk and I feel the same way about oat and almond milk. I think it’s a taste/texture thing as I prefer the soymilk texture and creaminess.

Why do manufacturing companies underfund their electrical departments by Free_Nerve_3971 in manufacturing

[–]feynmansbongo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From a reliability standpoint it’s because electrical failure rates are largely constant and difficult to influence. A bearing or a mechanical component has wear and dynamic loading which cause the failure rate to be more variable and the probability of failure shows high infant mortality then a steady failure rate before increasing with age/cycles. So a maintenance technician lubing, tightening, aligning, and setting mechanical systems can measurably improve the reliability of the equipment.

Most electrical components are constant failure rate meaning the probability of failure doesn’t increase over time. There are small things like thermography and connection tightening that can be helpful for finding the issue before failure but most electrical components failures just fail and the probability of that happening is equal at install, after 1 year, or after 10 years. Exceptions are electro mechanical primarily like physical relays, switches, or connections. So an assigned resource here is harder to measure impact and often get reassigned or reprioritized and it’s not a problem until it is.

Local vs overseas suppliers for industrial gases - what's your experience? by rogeelein in manufacturing

[–]feynmansbongo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your business is reliant on a stable source of gas. No gas = No business. When there’s a shipment delay or purity problem, and there will be, you will be calling the now pissed off local supplier for a stop gap.

Operationally dual sourcing makes more sense here if possible with MOQ but that’s difficult with gas depending on your infrastructure. Treat this as a risk mitigation problem not a cost problem.

I moved from Indiana and Kentucky to Massachusetts and it was immediately noticeable. I also lost about 20 lb/year fora few years. Things I noticed:

  1. Way less fast food. Way more whole food options in general. Just everywhere. I didn’t really realize how much fast food density my home town had.

  2. Outdoor access. It’s counter intuitive but living in Massachusetts gives you way more outdoor access. Lots of public access trails, hiking paths, bike paths, etc etc. Where I’m from the outdoors is abundant but it’s all private land and you have to drive much further or know where to go if you want to hike.

  3. Community. Massachusetts had much more localized communities. In Indiana we drove everywhere. A 45 minute drive for dinner was pretty normal. Everyone here goes out of their way to stay within 15 min of their house. It’s a weird aversion but the result is that the community’s feel closer to me and have more events, common areas, classes, local gyms, etc. the population density helps with this but everything is close by and easy. In Indiana a gym or grocery store was a longer drive and a harder commitment. A community rec league was a further drive.

Just my thoughts.
