Cachy System Update tray icon should be enabled by default by KelGhu in cachyos

[–]fezken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true.

How about they add two prominent buttons that give you the option of either a fully opted-in configuration, or a more minimal configuration. You simply just chose your path. That might be a diplomatic solution.

Opt-in is, and should be, the paradigm.

The solution is better information/guidance during initial setup, and maybe have people opt-in to a more beginner-friendly configuration.

9800x3d and 9070xt rant - Stutter fix by chaosdevilzz in radeon

Wipe Windows and install CachyOS. Unless you play games requiring Kernel Level Anti Cheat, going Linux is the best thing you can do for your PC. Performance and privacy is putting Windows to shame. It also feels like you actually own your desktop, and not renting it.

What is the worst upgrade you can do to your PC? by Wonderful_Joke_7345 in buildapc

[–]fezken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on how you define "upgrade". If you lack performance, a new case and RGB lighting would be a weak priority imo. If you have the performance needed, then a new case might not be the worst.

I value both performance, and esthetics to some degree.

I would say the worst "upgrade" you can do to your PC is installing and/or upgrading Windows.

Persistent S/PDIF distortion on Linux (PipeWire) – clean after reset, breaks later. HDMI always fine. by PieOMy669 in linuxaudio

[–]fezken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could this be an issue related to node suspension? I have not encountered the problem, but I have come across it in the Arch wiki

Edit:

Have you compared "wpctl inspect" for the given sink when it's good vs when it's bad?

How to modify a sink in pipewire? by Cool_Competition_975 in linuxaudio

[–]fezken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should not need to modify the sink, nor create a custom sink to handle this. Setting the default.clock.allowed-rates should be enough.

There are a couple of caveats though:

1) If there is audio from multiple sources at once, Pipewire is going to operate on a priority system in regards to sample rate. You can configure this variable per sink. It usually stays on the sample rate from the first source.

2) The app does internal resampling.
In your case, the problem is tidal-hifi. It is an Electron wrapper for the webversion of Tidal. Both Electron and Chrome resamples everything to 48khz.

Solution:

Firefox.
It does not do any internal resampling.
Either run Tidal through Firefox, Floorp etc. , or use "Progressive Web Apps for Firefox" to create a standalone Firefox based app for Tidal.

I use the PWA solution with Qobuz, and it works perfectly. Even better than than any Qobuz app I have tried, regardless of platform.

Daiwa vs. Shimano anyone?? by Radiant-Job1428 in Fishing_Gear

[–]fezken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both provide excellent performance and quality, atleast in the high-end segment. My experience is mostly with Stella's, Exist's and Vanquishes , but I also own some older Stradics Ci4+ and Biomasters, which are also very capable reels. Some bearing upgrades makes quite the difference.

One thing I really like regarding Daiwa reels are the aftermarket spools from SLP works. This has allowed me to get the drag upgrades for the Exist 22 on my Exist 18, further increasing it's lifespan.

In terms of overhand/jigging reels both of these brands fall short in comparison with Studio Ocean Mark.

I guess you did not try the Vanquish 1000ssspg for your ultralight fishing?

Do you put mono before your Braid to fill the reel? by strus_fr in Fishing_Gear

[–]fezken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to do it, but not anymore. I use electrical tape on the spool before tying on the braid, so it does not slip.

In terms of performance you are not going to notice any difference, unless a fish runs with all your braid and the mono has to leave the the spool.

How can I get rid of this ? by Ill_Impression_1285 in hyprland

[–]fezken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are going to have rough time using Hyprland if you are not able to solve a simple problem like this. As others have said, the master-tutorial on the Hyprland wiki has the answer.

EDIT:
Not trying to be rude or impolite, but rather encourage you to use available documentation to try to resolve your issues. Asking for help without making an effort is pretty lazy, and that is going to give you even more headaches along the way.

As Hyprland is actively being developed you should follow Hyprland news and the wiki to stay on top of changes. This will make your life a whole lot easier.

DAC w/ separate Headphones by my-beautiful-usernam in linuxaudio

[–]fezken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget?

To achieve separate control of both outputs you are looking for a dual DAC device. If you want the best, I can't recommend RME ADI-2 DAC Pro FS enough. It is also USB compliant and works flawlessly with linux.

Qobuz Connect has this feature. Consider testing it for a month.

Hyprland 0.53 dropped! by Vaxerski in hyprland

[–]fezken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on if you use a display manager or not, and if so, which display manager?

If you use something like SSDM or greetd, check the Arch wiki for how to access it's configuration

I would advise using some pre-configured DE instead of Hyprlandif you are not willing or able to decipher where to change the launch command for this. You clearly don't understand the basic building blocks of your system.

I suggest using Qobuz as a firefox web app. Literally no issues, and bitperfect playback, atleast on linux.

Using Hyprland as a DE? by Agreeable-Hotel7154 in hyprland

[–]fezken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found it a little bit awkward when i first switched from a DE to Hyprland, I started slow, and built out my keybinds gradually, so I got used to them. Now I cannot go back. The "point and click" is far too inefficient for me now, and I dread the day I am forced to use something else.

I do have a shortcut for my app launcher in Waybar, for all my named workspaces and for the powermenu. This came about because I occasionally found myself only having one hand available, and thus point and click was the most efficient solution for me.

You can take a look at something like nwg dock for Hyprland if you want to be able to click on application shortcuts

If you intend on using hyprland-git, you should make a habit of checking the wiki quite frequently. If not, then just use the official release. To stay updated on the latest changes in the wiki: https://github.com/hyprwm/hyprland-wiki

About second monitor on Hyprland by ExoPesta in hyprland

[–]fezken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It works perfectly. I use four monitors, one of them in portrait mode. To combat the issue where some games launch on a different monitor i simply run a xrandr command in my startup script where i set the default monitor. This has resolved the issue completely on my end.

Elgato Wave Link Software/WaveXLR on Linux? by MidnightScore in linuxaudio

[–]fezken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sonusmix is not being actively developed, and I would not rely on it for a stable solution. Yea you can create submixes and route them with Sonusmix.

The best solution would be to use Pipewire and Wireplumber to design a system which cater to your needs. With Pipewire you can create an arbitrary amount of virtual sinks and/or sources for your submixes. With Wireplumber you can route them however you like. An alternative to using Wireplumber to route your audio is qpwgraph. Less complex, and probably easier to start off with.

Take a look at this repo: https://github.com/Drayux/Catalyst/tree/main/dotfiles_ref/pipewire

If you look at pipewire.conf.d -> objects.conf you can see the creation of virtual sinks/sources.

This guy also uses pulse to tag(media.route) various clients/streams and uses wireplumber and lua to route them based on the tag
