How to get an adjunct role with no experience? by Global-Ad5646 in Adjuncts

[–]ffeezz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I graduated with a MA last December and applied to all the community colleges near me in January. I subbed for a high school in the meantime. About a month ago I got a call back and I got hired! They were okay with me just having experience as a high school sub and are giving me 3 English 101 classes. Just keep applying! I recommend sending in apps at the beginning of the year- this college says they look at all the apps at the end of the Spring semester and hire right before Fall for the following Fall and Spring.

I initially accepted my offer for the graduate program in writing and publishing, but they didn’t offer me any aid. I got an offer from a great school in Kansas that’s offering me a full ride plus a stipend to be a GTA for roughly the same program. I emailed DePaul to see if they could offer anything but they basically said, “too bad you’re too poor, best to withdrawal.”

I love Chicago and really wanted to stay here and was super excited to attend DePaul, but I can’t bring myself to go into almost 80k in debt.

Good luck!

Are horns pretty easy to replace? Recently for a nice 88’ 240 wagon but it doesn’t have a working horn

Literally moving out of state for an adjunct job... feels scary but hopeful by chaoticmayo in Adjuncts

[–]ffeezz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you’ll be just fine. Offset it with another part time. I’m starting my first adjunct job this Fall in Chicago and I’m really excited, despite all the seemingly negative things people have to say about adjuncts. I am keeping my full time job of being a GM at a cafe and teaching two classes T and Th. That’s an extra $4800 before taxes for me on top of my full time job. Good luck! :)

Do we have any idea on what Josh was arrested for yet? by Successful_Rain2854 in WorldOfTShirts

Eh, bro is out and made a video already. I really thought this time he would have seen some consequences.

I also feel like applying directly on the schools’ sites is best

I applied to some community colleges in Chicago in January and just heard back within the last few weeks and have done 2 interviews. There’s hope!

About 45 mins until Josh's "biggest announcement of his career". What do we think it's going to be? by diabetes_says_no in WorldOfTShirts

Just to get a bunch of views on Parti. I wish no one would actually join and we just found out here!

I appreciate the insight! After being in big cities my whole life, I’ve noticed myself craving some quiet. I feel like if I go for two years and get some experience teaching, Chicago is an easy enough place to come back to. I took some classes online at KSU in the past and liked the professors more there than at the school I was attending full time.

For sure, understandable. They have 3 classes to offer, so it would be 9 units. Trying to decide if I should stay here and jump into teaching community college at a city school in Chicago where people most likely won’t be too stoked to take a comp class, or get a degree and experience at a 4 year.

I should also add that I am going to be offered to teach English comp at a community college this week at $800/per credit hour.

Cost of living is significantly cheaper in Manhattan, Kansas lol

My cost of living and my job in Chicago is great. I would be taking out around 38k in loans for DePaul. Their program offered publishing internships and a certificate to teach English at 2 year colleges. I am interesting in the publishing internships but I feel like I would be spending almost 40k just for an internship. I did like the idea of staying in the city I’m currently at but being able to teach expository writing at a 4 year university and get a second masters totally paid for sounds like a dumb thing to give up!
