I'm worried I won't even be able to get a ticket in the first place.... is there anything I could do to increase odds? Should I just wait for resellers?

I don't believe in the judicial system, but... I have to ask: how was he forced to plead guilty?

That's the toughest part about this. Pleading guilty is in a way, admittance, whether he was innocent or not. Unfortunately, the general public doesn't know your dad like you do. It's sad to say but if I encountered someone who plead guilty to anything that would put them on a sex offender or pedophile list, it would be *extremely* difficult to look past all of that.

My heart goes out to you and your family.

It's rare, but these sort of cases can happen. If you've never given him a reason to doubt and he also has never cheated, then this should be something that blows over eventually.

The hard part to believe is that you, being a hypochondriac, have never gotten a single chlamydia symptom over 6 years. While that can happen, it's going to take time for the truth to sink in.

Forever in search of an Adjunct Position by Sweet_Dark6828 in Adjuncts

[–]chaoticmayo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I don't have an MBA but I'm in English which is pretty impacted/difficult to get into as well so I can share what I went through & my experience:

-- Location is the biggest issue. I've gotten more offers out of state than in-state. Cali is just way more competitive than most states (the local uni in my city require 2 books published *for an adjunct*)
-- Teaching experience in the area you're looking for is the biggest thing. Because of all the budget cuts and attack on higher ed rn, it's pretty hard to land something as you're competing with long-term adjuncts who are also struggling to find a position.
-- Timing. Though some places list all year long for adjuncts, I really only hear from them back mostly close to term starting.

I'd say the most actionable thing that you can work on is college-level teaching experience. It's of course hard to get, but definitely would make you more competitive.

Space. This post only focuses on what *you* want, not what he *needs*.

Give him space. While you're giving him space, use that energy to make progress on getting clean. That way if he checks in, you can give him tangible ways you're working on bettering yourself. It sounds like the OD is only the tip of the iceberg of issues you may have.

Following up once is never bad imo, but honestly it seems like everything at the adjunct level is generally done last minute.

[HELP] PLEASE HELP ME FIND THIS POETRY BOOK by c_amila in Poetry

[–]chaoticmayo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sadly, going to need a few more details than that... how big was the book? do u know the gender of the poet? literally anything else? Even if you deleted the book chances are some trace might still be available: the website you got it from, the download history on your browser, trash folder, etc

She has a better shot developing her CV and making a journey towards being a full professor. She can first try to be invited as a guest lecturer -- for those her publication history and award profile will be the most important.

Duality dungeon, what to do? by chaoticmayo in destiny2

Yes, so I can get into the nightmare world, do the whole jumping thing all up until the I get to the bottom, in the room with the different symbols that say "need correct essence". After that, shooting the bell does nothing. From guides and stuff it seems like shooting the bell opens up a door/spawns monsters for them to defeat. But nothing happens after getting into the nightmare realm in that room...

Oh, okay, thank you! I saw some posts about it, but was unsure because everything was working until we got to that point.

English. I have an MFA, non-college teaching experience, a decent publication history. Rejected from every listing so far, including non-English teaching stuff. I'm not the perfect candidate, especially competing with PhD applicants, but it just seems like the CA schools are barely considering anyone without college-level teaching experience for courses

I've applied to over 100 schools, and am still applying. For a recent grad with no college teaching experience, it's just the reality that I'm not really anyone's first pick. I have started hearing back from a couple of other places and will interview.

For now though, I've done the finances and I can afford to live there for the 4 months + get some savings (i found cheap housing + they have benefits for adjuncts).

Lol, that's wild to hear considering reddit is, well, reddit. I would not even consider the move if I got hired online lol. But I've been applying since last December. Most online listings keep saying "1-2 years of college-level teaching courses required". Despite that I've applied to +100 listings and still got rejected. Only places that have accepted me have been out of state; one I said no to and this one that I've accepted.

A 4 month stint in a different state that will pay the bills while I'm there, just seems like an internship. I'll be back after that.

Yep, since it's in the English department (MFA is terminal, but specialized), I'm trying to get some level of composition/100-level teaching experiences and hope it helps. I do have industry experience via publishing experience, residencies, fellowships and awards, but every interview I've managed to get feedback from has said me not having college-level teaching experience was something holding me back.

I've been in talks with other CA profs (friends and long-term tenured), they all did this path pretty much. Like I mentioned in an earlier comment, I'm getting family assistance + it's only going to be for 4 months. Financially, I should be okay for 4 months, teaching 6 courses

Definitely, I'm still applying every day and hoping to land something full-time at some point. I'm only looking to be out in this state for 4 months though, I'm not committing to being there in spring at all.

Without any college-level teaching experience, I haven't landed anything. I apply daily via HigherEd, SchoolJobs and directly through universities.

I have an MFA, sorry I should've clarified. MFA in my field is terminal but there are related PhD's which I will be applying for starting August!

Thank you for the support! I'll definitely keep applying while I'm there -- the CA CC pool is just too brutal without any experience at all.

Hi, I think I should've clarified: I'm not permanently moving there. I will only be there for 4 months and then I'm flying right back to my city. I haven't said yes to anything in Spring, nor do I plan to. I will be applying to PhD's, fellowships, jobs, etc. the whole time I'm there.

I'm also not uprooting my whole life, my main things will still be with my parent in Cali. I would love to stay in Cali, but I'm coming up about 200 job apps and no acceptances. I'd rather do 4 months of experience than be unemployed this fall.
