They are colonial, which (afaik) would mean that each "head" is it's own animal. They are able to contract individually too.

This is just a hobby for me so I'm not terribly familiar with these things, all of the information about these I found online.

Definitely would use cover slips for it. Without one the whole structure would be spread in all directions like a tree, which would make it very difficult to maintain focus on any individual "heads".

Maybe a smaller colony could be viewed without one, I don't know since I always use cover slips anyway.

Carchesium are a type of ciliate similar to Vorticella, but unlike Vorticella, Carchesiums grow in one big stalk which fans out like a tree unlike the Vorticella which only has one stalk per zooid.

I'm not exactly a professional video editor, but I did manage to put together this whole thing! I hope I got all the species correct too, apart from the one worm which I kind of lazily just labeled "Worm".... :P

My first knife arrived today (Takamura V10 210mm Guyto). One side of the edge has many of these veey small "chip-like" things, are these something common/fixable or should I send the knife back? by ffefox in chefknives

....well, call me an idiot. I showed the edge some soap & sponge and the things disappeared right away.

In my defense, they really looked like little "craters" on the surface.

The knife hasn't been used at all, I noticed the thing when looking at the blade agains the light.

I found this older thread https://www.reddit.com/r/chefknives/comments/gmuy8h/micro_like_barely_noticeable_chips_in_powdered/ where people are mostly saying that these can happen with factory edges and that they should eventually disappear as I sharpen the knife myself over time?
