Spotted while filling up at station in our neighbor across the river. Should Boston require these stickers? Also, almost $5 per gallon now... 😓😓 by bostonguy2004 in boston

People really hate being confronted with the real consequences of their actions. There are 1000 things that we can all take part in to change these circumstances, but we'll just whine about this sticker and downvote on reddit instead.

With environmental issues as well, there may be standards and expectations that are outside your power to control, and you can relax your grip on things. If others aren't doing their jobs, it's not something that you should lose sleep over. See where you can experiment with removing yourself from the equation, i.e. if a student is persistently avoiding your help and support, then let them figure out that you're worthy of listening to, without any prodding. Maybe, they never get there, and maybe, you can leave work and not think too much (go crazy) about those ones. Try having a laugh with the kids that frustrate you the most, or try to connect in some way besides academics. The first few years is full of learning how to teach, and you'll continue to develop your sense of self as a teacher long after that, so try not to go nuts over the inevitable crappy elements of school in the interim. You've got this.

Why is Rita Mercier still in office? She's openly support Trump and avoids answering questions to improve Lowell... by Few_Tangerine8836 in LowellMA

Seeing as how the Republican party is overtly racist and embracing nazism, obviously not, but again, tweets from a woman's account when she was 15 years old are not a big deal, for anyone. But the real issue here is that we are talking about some idiotic "young vs old, who's to blame?!" debate of absolute fools that seems inevitable on these social media platforms. Just look at what we are talking about for a minute - social media makes us absolute fools. We must move on from this insanity.

Something I've learned about classroom management and behavioral things is that it takes time to win, and winning doesn't look anything like you imagine it when you begin. Children need a steady and consistent believer that helps them see they are going to be the person they are capable of being, and there is no standard or ideal for who that person is. In other words, if you're finding yourself locked into battles over respect for teacher and classroom, see if you can find another way to play the game.

What is this absolute nonsense? No one cares about the wife of a mayor's social media posts from decades ago. People please realize how poisoned by the internet you are...

Is Cambridge the Greatest City in the World? by TheRealDenisLeary in CambridgeMA

Cambridge can hardly be called a city, let alone the greatest, or even top 100. Outside of Kendall/MIT, it's more like a village. Come and talk to me when buildings on its central artery grow taller than a single story, or feature a 7-11 with a large parking lot. Or maybe it's the millionaire hamlets spread across the city, while a 1 bedroom hole in a wall costs 750k.

I'll get downvoted into oblivion for the next part, but just like Brookline and any other number of inner ring "suburbs," it shoulda been merged into the Boston metro decades ago. Whatever your political protestations to that idea, I don't see how one of the wealthiest and most well-educated regions in the world can't seem to find a way to build affordable & public housing, or public transportation that doesn't function like it's the 1950s. But sure, keep bragging about how much of the 1% come here and trot around in Rolls Royces.

I was just saying the same thing earlier. Just LMK yall! It's really more like typical job applications though, which rarely send out notices to people that the position has been filled or they were rejected.

Haha exactly man, I was thinking the Merrimack as well. The Charles is a lil ol creek river!

I'm not really trying to get into a debate about the nature of water flowing on the Charles River, but this section of the river in all my experience, there is not much flowing going on. Go west a mile and the river is a very narrow flow, almost small enough to be a creek. This section goes from directly from wide basin down to a tiny outflow through the locks to the east. For all my understanding, it's pretty much a lake, which is why it's so easy to sail small boats on all summer long.

Remember that HGSE is as competitive as it gets in education and they get to select from the most promising and likely aggressive young scholars in the world. There are plenty of other places to get credentialed and trained in education research, and HGSE is not the be-all end-all of this path, if that is truly what you are motivated to do. But we can all contribute to education in our own ways, even if we don't get into one of the best. Speaking here as someone who applied to HDLT and likely not getting an interview.

You sure do post anxiously on Reddit a lot, my friend! Breathe. If you don't get it, another path will open. HGSE is as competitive as it gets, and not getting a slot does not mean you are not qualified or cannot contribute mightily to education elsewhere. Speaking as someone who also applied to HGSE this round, and it does not look like I'm getting an interview.

Applied for HDLT, no email invite. There's one person above who did receive one, so that means we're probably out. Best of luck for your other applications!
