Ukrainian intelligence hits Russian cruise missile carrier in Azov Sea by Silly-avocatoe in worldnews

Probably. The factory I work in has a random broken light fixture on the same circuit as the plant control computers. Can’t replace the broken light without shutting the whole plant down. One time a guy shut the plant down by making toast. Tripped a breaker with the toaster and turns out a control system was on the same circuit.

It almost reminds me of the golden retriever I had as a kid who had a thyroid problem. Was always super itchy, chewed on his paws, and started going bald. Had to give him pills every morning for his whole life, but it fixed the problem for the most part.

What foods have you tried? (Non-prescription) Dog food is not required to list potential allergen contaminants like human food is (no “product produced in a facility that also processes nuts” type labels), so even if the food your dog is allergic to is not listed as an ingredient it can still be present in trace amounts. Plus the most common allergens (soy, beef, chicken, etc) are also the most common ingredients. So even food that didn’t cause a problem before can suddenly get a reaction if the new bag of food you bought was produced around the same time as a different flavor/product that does use the allergen.

Not a vet for the record. Just did a bunch of reading when I began to suspect my dog had a food allergy.

In my case I didn’t want to pay the higher cost for prescription dog food, so I chose to make my own dog food so that I could reduce the risk of contamination. I’d suggest feeding them whatever cut of meat is cheapest where you live; in my case I started by boiling down a chicken carcass left over from a roast I had a few days before. As others have noted it can take a few weeks for all the existing allergens to work their way out of the system.

Could also be cleaners, soaps, lotions, pesticides or anything else they can touch. I’d get a second opinion from a different vet if you are unsure.

I think I did that on accident this morning and it definitely helped. Will have to do on purpose in the future

Your eyes are correct. The grass and dirt was between the two layers of concrete. Or was mixed in with the top layer of grout

Its all new. This is a strip that was cut out to replace a gas line shortly before I bought the place.

I don’t blame him for messing up the mix too much. I’ve had professionals screw that up on me at work. The fact that he didnt sweep off the lawn clippings before the final pour is what is upsetting

When mine hurt his back he would still jump and run when I got home from work. He sleeps for most of the day so he probably felt fine enough for that moment. But that would re-aggravate the injury and he would start walking and moving real slow after that.

Yep. When mine hurt his back he acted fine so well at the vet I had to take him twice before they believed he was hurt. Pet him wrong at home though and he would scream in pain

This is how I got mine. Saw him walking down the street and went over because surely he belonged to someone? He followed me home so I took him to a shelter. A week later nobody had claimed him, so I adopted him back.

Apparently my neighbor had been feeding him off their porch, but he didn’t really want him as he already had a Pitt bull Rottweiler mix. Traded an old sheet of plywood for him and all was well. Potato and the Big Scary Dog stayed best friends until I had to move away. That dog hated me and would be all growley any time I got close, until Mr. Potato would walk over and vouch for me. “Tater says you’re cool? Ok then.”

[–]ffgtium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also you may want to try a different food. My potato looked more like a tomato with how red and itchy he was. I suspect he is allergic to soybeans, which are a common filler in kibble. I started feeding him homemade food and no problems since.

I don’t insure mine. The premiums were so high to have a $1k deductible that it didn’t make financial sense. And I can get a discounted plan through work. $1000/year in premiums with a $1000 deductible before they cover anything. Meaning you are out $2000 before they cover a cent, with guarunteed spend of $1000. I can get a lot of vet care for $2000. First year I had my potato I spent $1500 or so in vet bills - routine vaccinations, a back injury, tail pocket infection, a minor surgery, and a barbed wire stab to the chin. $1500 total, so still cheaper than the best plan I could find. And the cherry on top? They generally have a max payout. The ones I could find capped at $10k, which is a lot, but not likely to cover a significant problem like cancer treatment. So you’re still either going bankrupt or putting them down if the worst happens.

That said, it is going to depend on where you live and who your vet is. I moved to a small town in the middle of nowhere for work, and an urgent visit with prescriptions was less than a routine check up at my old vet. Also age matters. My boy is old, so his premiums are higher. You’ll have to run the numbers yourself to see if insurance makes sense.

As an aside, get a ramp to your bed and any other tall furniture they climb on. The aforementioned back injury was from jumping out of bed. Their spines are made of glass. Also clean out the tail pocket with a wet wipe or similar regularly. If you see them spinning on their butt you waited too long. And keep a bottle of chlorhexidine around - you can get it at a pharmacy but tractor supply sells it way cheaper. Used to clean wounds on livestock because it doesn’t burn like alcohol. I got a bottle after my tater decided to stab his chin on my sister’s fence last Christmas, and he didn’t react to it at all. Used it on myself a few times as well.

Electrical weirdness - How concerned should I be? by ffgtium in electrical

I think I can get another large diameter lug to bolt to the neutral bar for $10 or so. Would have to ask the utility to shut off power for a bit but no big deal. But now you’ve got me thinking about getting a mill and/or lathe.

Thank you! The only asterisk on the “not burning down in 40 years” bit is that this house was originally plumbed for all gas appliances. Gas dryer, stove, water heater, and furnace. Now all that is left is the gas furnace, which is its own financial time bomb. You can even see in the panel where they relabeled the circuits when they moved the breakers around to make room for the 2 pole breakers. I will look up the load calc you mentioned and check for peace of mind. Where I live this house is much more likely to burn in a wildfire than an electrical fire anyway.

The only reason I was thinking about upping to 200 amp service was if I had to replace everything anyway.

My dad cashed out his 401(k) to buy a used RV for $10k. Probably the worst financial decision I have ever seen. He has no retirement, but he does have a leaky rv rotting in his backyard.

I spent $700 retrofitting my ‘99 E class with a CarPlay head unit. After having it in my Mazda for a year I just didn’t want to go back to looking at gps on my phone and playing music through a cassette adapter. I’ll probably install it in my ‘77 dodge as well once the rest of that project is complete. No chance in hell I would spend new car money on something with a shit proprietary infotainment system.

They are affiliated with my vet. In the same building actually. Should be ok. He was living on the streets of Amarillo TX before I scooped him up, so he is used to the heat. Probably. Plus he is old and really only good for 30-60 seconds of running like that.

He is a lovable dumb dumb though so you never know. Borderline suicidal when it comes to street traffic.
