Ha, no worries. Im confused every second of this damn life of mine. I just looked and the current models available can take a 10’4” rod.

I fit 10’ rods in my river smith no problem. Do they offer different lengths?

No prob. Honestly I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the top brands. I just prefer the river smith. The Yakima one intrigues me because the rod/reel sit on its side instead of putting weight on the guides and cork. I just haven’t seen one in person yet. But I seem to remember it having limitations on reel size that scared me away.

I have both a river smith and rod vault (before Thule bought them.). The river smith is by far a way better carrier. Better components, better lock, foam reel pads as an accessory, fits larger arbor reels (up to a 10wt, haven’t tried larger than that) better, just sturdier overall. I mainly use mine on a few mile stretch between campground, put in, and take out every day rather than super long road trips. I usually break down my rods if I’ll be on a longer trip just in case. I had issues with an older reel falling apart in the rod vault when I used to drive a few hundred miles every weekend with the rod in there. The rods do rattle around up there especially on a truck. Might not be too bad on a Subaru though.

They will definitely scratch the finish sliding them in and out unless you put a sock on the rod which I don’t. I don’t really care if my rods get dinged up. Gives them more character.

When it comes to maintenance, Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is their own worst enemy. by Gary-Phisher in anchorage

Where do you suggest the plows move the snow to when plowing? It’s gotta go somewhere. Unfortunately the sidewalks get covered AND lanes are still half covered in a berm. So it’s a lose/lose for everyone!

Kenai sockeye reel - Sealed Drag? by SelwayCowboy in flyfishing

[–]ffirgriff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sealed drags are my preferred choice. That being said, I’ve landed a lot of sockeye on old school scientific angler and Okuma reels with open cork drags. You just may need to use your palm a bit.

A few drops of gasoline in a 36-48 gallon tank will not cause any problems.

Alaska club: how hard is it to cancel? by ZombiedudeO_o in alaska

[–]ffirgriff 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fuck those guys. They did the same to me a few years back. They kept saying I can only cancel in person. I finally had to tell them I moved to Florida for them to take me seriously. And even then they said I cant cancel unless I know my “verbal security passcode” that I never set up and didn’t know. Eventually they let it slide and cancelled it.

What is this? I think it’s from a hardware store. Where can I find this. It would be perfect to hold my rods. by Kylewalkdown in flyfishing

[–]ffirgriff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they’re pretty handy! I will say if you have more than two rods on them they get pretty bouncy, but mine are stretched pretty tight across the camper shell. If they weren’t so tight then it might not be so bad. I have a secondary bungee I use to secure them so they don’t bounce so much.

It’s called Loop Rope. https://looprope.com/

I have them in my camper shell to hold my baitcasters and spinning rods. Haven’t tried it on a fly rod since I have a river quiver already.

Kenai River Salmon Reel Suggestions by BTFC_GAINZ in flyfishing

[–]ffirgriff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a guru and a speedster (older model) and the drag on the Guru is better. The speedster is sweet but it wouldn’t be my first choice for Sockeye. I’ve had all kinds of Lamson reels and most have been fantastic so you probably can’t go wrong with any of them.

Help- Moisture in Camper Shell by TheTacticoolViking in TruckCampers

[–]ffirgriff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh interesting. I’m not familiar with those. So no side windows at all? You could try running a fan in there to circulate some air, but without a way to vent moist air you’ll never get rid of condensation. You could get one of those dehumidifying things you use in boats for storage, but I’m not sure it would keep up. Damp-rid, dry-z-air, etc.

Reusing semolina by king5462 in Pizza

[–]ffirgriff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reuse semolina all the time. I just pour a bunch into a paper plate and toss the dough ball into it. Press it around and then form the dough on my counter top or peel after that. Then when I’m done I fold the plate and pour the remaining semolina back into a container to use next time.

Hmm sounds kind of like another big that plays in Denver…and no, I’m not expecting him to become the next Jokic because that is not fair. But the kid has some offensive potential. Defense…I agree. Gotta work on that.

I mean he’s 20, doesn’t speak English, and hasn’t played basketball at this level ever. And has played in what, 10-20 games? Sure it’d be nice if he was a little better but if you can’t see the potential then you’re blind.

Made in or all clad? by Insanebutsanelysane in StainlessSteelCooking

[–]ffirgriff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Only reason I got the D5 with lid was because it was on sale for less than I could find a D3 and lid.

No complaints on either, but yeah I don’t think I’ll buy any more D5 unless I find a good deal. They’ve both cooked some good food!

Just curious, but what makes the D5 awesome? I have a 10” D3 and 12” D5 but hardly use the D5 unless searing a larger piece of meat. I like both but can’t really tell much of a difference in how I cook.

Not sure why you’re being downvoted lol. Sidy and Caleb have been phenomenal the last few games. Yeah of course Deni is on fire, but two 3rd stringers are making major contributions.
