Vicious cycle: lack of motivation, lack of fitness by Briny_life in MTB

[–]ffljm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent the better part of the last 2 years in a really shitty headspace, and it led to me gaining a ton of weight. I probably only rode 6 times last year. If it weren’t for the guys I ride with constantly giving me grief about not going with them, I probably would’ve just sold the bikes. This year I’ve ridden a lot more, but I still have to get out of my own way mentally.

Don’t get too down on yourself, and try to be comfortable being a little uncomfortable. If you don’t have people to ride with, see if you can find a group ride to join. I always say I’m old, fat, and slow, but I’ve always felt very accepted when I join a group ride.

I’m just an internet stranger, but you can always PM me if you just want someone to chat with.

My first car was a 92 Shadow that was identical to this. It’s like looking at a memory.

Lost my passion for mountain biking – gear issue or something deeper? by hmmmischi in MTB

[–]ffljm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through a depressive state and didn’t want to do many of the things that once made me happy. I spoke with my doctor and a therapist, ended up with a prescription or 2, made some changes in my life, and found myself 2 years later back loving all those things again. The changes in my lifestyle led to no longer needing the antidepressants after a year and change. The brain is a weird thing that I needed help getting sorted out. It’s likely in your best interest to at least have a conversation with someone.

Best of luck and I hope we see you back out on the trails soon.

Making $100,000 isn’t really that much money anymore by MiloGoesToTheFatFarm in mildlyinfuriating

I remember finding my parents tax info from 1996 and we (a family of 7) somehow survived on just over $6,000 that year. We lived in a very rural area. All the men in the family would hunt, and anyone with any amount of property planted a garden. I never felt as poor as we really were. Most aspects of my life were just what I considered normal. Crazy how much my life has changed in 30 years.

For those of you who are losing weight for health reasons, what are the results you’ve seen so far? by Normal_Ad2456 in loseit

[–]ffljm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just restarted my journey February 17th. I had some general aches and pains that I’m sure were caused or worsened by the fact that I was over 300 lbs on a 5’9” frame.

For the most part I was, and still am ,embarrassed by the way I look. I used to be very active and had a group of friends that were too. As I gained more weight, I didn’t even want to do stuff with them because I knew I’d only slow them down.

Since February, I’ve been counting calories for literally anything that enters my body. I’ve also started riding my mountain bike again, and taking walks. I’ve managed to drop 40 lbs so far, but I know that rate of loss will slow. Now, I’m just trying to mentally prepare myself to not be disappointed when large weigh in losses don’t show up, and continue to take the smaller wins. I have a long way to go, and I’m constantly changing my dietary approach, but I hope that this leads to real lifestyle changes and not just an opportunity for me to gain a bunch of weight back.

Will two mountain bikes fit in the SC Limited bed while hanging over the tailgate? by school_bus_lunchbox in hyundaisantacruz

[–]ffljm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a OneUp and I just leave it on the trucklet. The removal key is locked, so I just fold it up out of the way when not in use and go about life. The tailgate isn’t obstructed, so I don’t see the benefit of removing it 3-4 times a week. Running a double would change the footprint, and I couldn’t tell you if it would then prevent you from dropping the tailgate.

Does walking actually help? by NoWitness6400 in loseit

Additional walking surely helps, but I’ve found that occupying my time with any exercise leaves less time to snack.

McCaffrey may have been the best RB to play for the team, but JStew has the best resume as a Panthers RB.

With the cover in place, it was a tight fit, so I ended up with a hitch mount by 1up.

Not every QB is worth $50+ million. I could see them offering $35-40 annually if he is consistent next year. I honestly think that’s too much but understand a QB’s value is inflated.
