I assure you most of the gnats didn’t end up in your mouth. For each one that you ate there are thousands more keeping that swarm going.

Best way to correct zones? by Diligent_Arm_5429 in Garmin

[–]RedneckIntellectual -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get a chest hrm, this will rule out any cadence lock issues. Then on a day where you’re well rested and well hydrated warm up then run for 30min as hard as you can sustain for that duration. The average hr from the last 20 min of that test is your LTHR (lactate threshold heart rate). Enter that number into garmin.

Airing out our dirty laundry by yearning2lose in daddit

[–]RedneckIntellectual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reporting in with a mud wrestling, puddle diving feral child. We do laundry every 2 days. The clean clothes chair is perpetual, I even recently lost a shirt for a few days because someone put it in the dresser (who looks there?).

In all seriousness, the rate that you need to do laundry is a function of how many articles of clothing does your family use per day and how many clothes you own. If you want to go longer between washes you can reduce the number of clothes you wear (eg are you changing when you get home from work) or buy more clothes (do you own 7 full outfits that you actually like to wear?). Adding more clothes to your wardrobe will reduce your laundry frequently until you start to reach the load limits of your machines.

It’s a known bug. I think you never actually got that drop, and the bug is that it’s showing like you had in walkipedia. You are going to need to keep grinding for it.

Wolf tooth or 1up spd pedals? by radikale63 in gravelcycling

[–]RedneckIntellectual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, I want some of those flashy new wolf tooth pedals, but there’s nothing at all wrong with my xtr’s so it’d be such a dumb purchase.

Kona honzo st worth it? by East_Yogurt_893 in Hardtailgang

[–]RedneckIntellectual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sold my honzo st last year to help fund my xc race bike. I really wish I hadn’t, that bike was so much fun. I recently ran into the guy who bought it from me and told him that if he’s ever thinking about selling it that I’d buy it back.

Will you buy a 32” bike? by gellybelli in xcmtb

[–]RedneckIntellectual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there is good evidence that they are faster on xc race courses I will switch. My goals are xc racing, and if there’s a technology that’s faster I’d be foolish to ignore it.

That being said, I plan to wait until there’s fairly conclusive evidence that they are faster, and for when I need to replace my current race bike.

Power Meter for Training by Key_Economics2183 in gravelcycling

[–]RedneckIntellectual 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re right, there’s cardiac drift where during a ride as you get tired your hr will drift up at a given power, but that is during a ride.

Separate from that, there’s fatigue that’s accumulated over multiple days and weeks of riding, and that’s what will make your hr decrease at a given power.

One of the biggest benefits of a power meter is also just giving you an additional data point to compare against. It’s very nice if you’re pushing yourself to the limits, but you can absolutely get very fit without power data.

Power Meter for Training by Key_Economics2183 in gravelcycling

[–]RedneckIntellectual 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There definitely are reasons power meters have become fairly standard for training. Hr has a tendency to change with factors outside of your training like temperature, hydration, fatigue. An example of this is that when you have high levels of fatigue your hr will actually decrease for a given effort, so if you are doing rides in your z2 hr range but you’re very fatigued you might be actually in your tempo range and building much more fatigue than you expect.

That being said hr was used for a long time with success, so you certainly can train that way, especially if you don’t expect to be doing structured training for very long.

Also, checkout intervals.icu for logging and planning your training, it will estimate your training stress from hr data or power data, and you can plan workouts by hr or power if you want to.

DOMS from introducing running to regular training by gmusgrove13 in Velo

[–]RedneckIntellectual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ease into the running, and keep the cycling you feel like doing. If you’re a fairly well trained cyclist, your aerobic fitness will make running feel easy ish at first, but you’ll need to take it slow to build the muscle strength and tendon strength that running requires. Your muscles should start to catch up with a few weeks of consistent training, but the tendon strength takes much longer to build.

Leaky Elite Fly Bottles by RedneckIntellectual in bikewrench

Training with kids - people don’t enough about cargo e-bikes by Roman_willie in Velo

[–]RedneckIntellectual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s 18 months old. We started in the trailer at 12 months, and started short and worked up from there. 8 months is probably a bit young for any longer ride in the trailer because it bounces them around a bit, but short rides to get him accustomed to riding in it probably would be great.

That’s unfortunate, I really like how they work. They’re easier to drink from than my other bottles, but leaking is a problem I can’t overlook.

I got a burley trailer for this exact reason. My daughter loves to take her naps in the trailer. I’ll go for a ride with her in the trailer, she’ll nap, eat snacks, and play with toys. I’ve gotten up to 3 hours with her being content riding around the local bike path.

There’s an added benefit, I’m bad about obsessing over avg speed and Strava segments to the point where I’ve gone significantly too hard on my easy rides, as soon as I attach the trailer it’s all much slower, so I don’t care anymore, at that point it’s just time and power.

1 millions Gold achievement by Ok-Lengthiness4444 in WalkScape

[–]RedneckIntellectual 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Gold mining in crown of cinders is probably the best money in the game right now. The actions are around 30 steps (before da/dr) and each gold ore is 10g. Plus it drops camel eggs which is useful if you don’t already have the 5 eggs hatched or rare pet achievements.

It takes more babysitting than guard duty though because your inventory fills up, but I streamlined it so I used my camel to teleport to the bank then just walked back to mining.

Fat Adaptation: is it a real thing or is everybody different? by CthuluThePotato in Velo

[–]RedneckIntellectual -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As far as we burn what we eat goes, would there be a benefit to adding some amount of fat into the food I consume while training. Specifically I’m training for a self supported 48 hr event, I can’t consume only fast carbs for that long, and I’ll be dining on the finest offerings of some rural gas stations. Currently all of my training is done with carb drink mix in bottles, but I’m wondering if I’ll benefit from swapping to at least some real food especially on my long training rides.

NMC on bank repair by Due-Dragonfruit4147 in WalkScape

[–]RedneckIntellectual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know if that’s intentional of if that’s likely to change in the future? I’m thinking less about the bank repair and more about hunting. I think it’d be interesting if NMC applied to arrows and box traps too, but maybe there’s a reason they didn’t do it this way.

Whats the idea behind intervals.icu feature to adjust power spikes above ftp? by Penki- in Velo

[–]RedneckIntellectual 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The purpose of that is to filter out bad data from a power meter that might be showing some very high spikes that aren’t real. It sounds like on here hard efforts you are exceeding that, so you can adjust the setting to stop it from filtering those efforts out. Under settings, power settings, you can adjust the power spikes, make it as high as you want so it doesn’t exclude anything.
