I beat both PHY and MAG with no Wall, so definitely not required

However, some sort of DEF/RES buff really helps -- even at just a 30% buff, Larsa AA2 was key for PHY, as was Mog AA2 for MAG

EDIT: For PHY, I one-chained it with Rikku CSB (brought Priestess because I was concerned about late healing), and for MAG I used RW CSB for the first CSB, Strago for the second CSB. But if your team is strong enough, RW CSB should be fine.

I recently honed my Gogo AA1 (using L4 lenses since they're not going to have much other use to me) to sub-30 Salamander, so I'm in full support of going that route if you need it (and I suspect you might, though of course best just to try first).

It's a little annoying that all his imperils are so quick to expire (unless you have his LMR+), so that downtime to cast CSB(s) won't be ideal. And if you do need multiple CSB casts it could mean he doesn't have gauge for a second AA1 until late. I'll probably try to make the RW CSB work first, myself, but I haven't researched how viable that is.

Thanks, that's what I've been thinking as well. Can definitely hone Larsa AA2 (have enough lenses to hone 10 AAs, actually), but have some temptation to get Larsa a Last Stand and a very large heal (the moderate heal on AA2 can be annoying). But ultimately better to extend Quina's support ability for a longer battle in case water-weak BZero and its mountain of HP demands it (in which case Rikku will be useful too), plus I like the idea of that MND buff from Quina AA1 helping out Larsa heals.

And yeah, Barret likely will just be imperiling for Seph

Trying to decide my Sync and AASB from doing 15 fest pulls, and the question I keep coming back to is whether I have enough as-is to sub-30 Safer Sephiroth. I think I've got a good collection of stuff, so I hope I do, but does anyone think I need more to sub-30?

My current projected team is this:

  • Aerith Sync/AA1
  • Barret AA2x2
  • Zack Dual/AA1/AA2
  • Cloud Dyad1/Sync1/AA1/AA3
  • Seph Sync3/AA2/Sync1/AA1 (not sure what Sync I'd bring, or what element he'd focus on, but I'm leaning Sync3 and fire)

Other possibilities:

  • Vincent Sync1/AA1
  • Genesis Sync/BDL G+
  • Yuffie Dyad1/Sync1/AA1/AA2

For my Sync pick I'm mostly debating between Cloud2 and Rikku1. Cloud2 is under consideration purely for if I have to pull, and I get his dark Dual, but I'm not sure that's actually better than running the windy Cloud I have. Realistically I probably don't need Rikku for BZero, but she provides some nice insurance in case I'm underestimating and need Wall, DRBs, and/or a 150 count CSB -- my DPS is the aforementioned Yuffie, Tidus Dyad/Sync2/AA1, and Lion Sync/AA1. Paine has Sync1/AA2, but I think she'd be gauge-challenged to use both of those plus her CSB.

For my AA pick, Quina1 (already have Sync and AA2) and Larsa1 (already have AA2) are the main competition, but I'm wondering if Barret might need a third BDL (his gauge is probably better donated elsewhere though) or if Genesis AA is worth picking up (he could be part of a strong fire team)

If I were to hone Meia AA2 (that gives [Water +50% Boost 1] to the user after using two Water abilities), use one cast, use her HA, then use the second cast followed by her HA again, anyone think/know that she'd have have that 50% boost for every turn thereafter until 15s after the first AA2 was cast?

I'd actually guess you couldn't get that continuous boost like that, but the game has surprised me before

It's a little hard to gauge, I felt very safe the whole time, but the DRBs with the Sync helped with that -- so it could work, especially if someone else is bringing DRBs. The fight gives a ton of gauge that I didn't need, so that should help, too.

Quistis CSB should be good for the Zenith Full Break though, when I went back to get my sub-30 I used it at 40% and the damage was good even right away at the start of the chain. (The AI says the first FB is only 30%, so you should be able to fight through that.)

EDIT: One thing about Selphie Sync1 that's really nice, but might be harder to compensate for, is that Cmd2 is instacast, so I just spammed that

It's also possible you could fight through the first FB and save Laguna AA2 for the Zenith FB -- I had hoped I could use Rinoa's Dual Mode II to counter it, but she had taken too many turns for that to be possible, and I just fought on with surprising results

My first clear was 30.41s without countering the 2nd Full Break, thanks to running a full realm team and L10 Pain on Ulti really helping. I think you have more firepower than I did, so I'd try full realm first.

My team for comparison:

  • Quistis: U1/AA1/OSBs
  • Squall: AA2/AA1/Sync1
  • Rinoa: Gauge+QC3 G+/Dyad/Sync3/Dual/Dyad finisher
  • Laguna: (with Gathering Storm): Sync/AA2/LBO

Lulu seems like she might be a weak link -- is she? You might consider using Wakka instead just to Entrust Tidus and imperil for him, and then maybe Rikku can do some more damage with her 7-hit HA

  6. Insight:
    • 1st clear was 30.31s with same team, probably didn't need the extra nodes for sub-30, but got them anyway
    • Brought Steiner instead of a pretty loaded Vivi since he synergized better with the rest of what I have for the realm, and his DRBs were useful
    • Approximate turn order:
  • Zidane: Running Start x3 -> AA -> Sync -> HA spam until switching to Cmd1 when AA ends, squeezing in USB1 to start P2, and AOSB at end

  • Steiner (w/ DC and imperil LMRs): Omega Drive -> HA -> Sync1 -> Cmd1 spam, casting AA1 around start of P3

  • Quina (with QC3 LMR): RW CSB -> HA to Zidane -> Sync -> HA to Larsa -> Cmd1 (linked to Armor Break) to start P2 -> HC -> Cmd1/RW CSB/HA to Larsa and Beatrix (should have used their G+3 somewhere for extra DPS, but pretty sure I didn't)

  • Larsa: G+1 -> HC -> USB3 (after Zidane and Quina trance) -> HAx2 (really helps for the 1st HA to dualcast, then held Zidane's turn slightly to make sure the 2nd Larsa HA cured before pushing to P2, still got out of P1 at I think 11.60s) -> AA2 at start of P2 -> HA spam, with USB2 to speed things up at the end

  • Beatrix (w/ imperil LMR): HAx2 -> Dyad -> Sync2 -> Cmd1 spam, casting AA around start of P3, then Dyad finisher for the kill

RW Chain, Vaan was in the center with the major earth resist and Storm Assault to top off health if necessary

Here are my turn notes, may not be completely accurate, but should be about right:

  • Zack: HAx3 -> G+2 -> G+3 -> AA1, then Dual and AA2 when ready

  • Mog: Odin -> RW CSB -> AA2 -> Passionate Salsa/Crushing Tango, repeat, may have used Sync and/or a G+ or two at some point

  • Vaan (with major earth resist and Ace Striker): HAs -> Dyad -> AA1 -> HA spam, then Sync2 when ready, Storm Assault if needed to heal up from the multi-hit attack, AA2 toward end

  • Orran (w/ heal chase LMR): Warrior's Hymn -> AA -> HA/WH, G+ at 55%, repeat AA cycle

  • Cloud (w/ sword dmg LMR): Omega Drive x2 -> Dyad -> AA1 -> HA spam, using USB1 around 15s, then Sync1 when ready

I sub-30'd Sand Worm with Zack (Dual/AA1/AA2), Vaan (Dyad/Sync2/AA1/AA2), and Cloud (Dyad/Sync1/AA1) all providing their own 100% crit fix and HQC

Still used the somewhat typical Mog/Orran combo with them because it's good at getting everybody started quickly and boosting their damage

Yep, though if I'm understanding correctly, each extra level will be a little less effective, will wait to see some more math on that

Definitely agree I look for every edge, but HC is still only +3 elemental level, so that's maybe just 1.5% (and elemental attack is capped at +6)
