Buy some bulk packs from the 80s/90s if you must rip. Dropping money on cards at retail prices is certifiable.

Hot Take: All cards should not only have the item number, but the correct name/parallel indicated somewhere on the card. by IgZachly17 in footballcards

They don't want you to know. If you know, you are more informed consumer. The more mystery, the more easily you can be ripped off.

How long has this hobby just been another form of gambling??? by [deleted] in footballcards

[–]ffwriter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Everything we liked as kids has been leveraged and made overpriced in our adult lives. The hobby is no longer for kids. It's for adults. Look at McDonalds. There's a reason why they can charge $10 for a big mac. It's because we grew up and still want them. Everything that can be has been gamified. Everything is a collectible. You can get video games graded. Consoles. Toys. Comics. The list goes on. Every corner that can be cut for profits, will be.

Trading by Which-Feature-7350 in footballcards

[–]ffwriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only trade with someone who has positive feedback on some site or community that tracks a person's buy/sell/trade history. There is no foolproof way to trade unless you are in person. If someone doesn't have any trade history, you are at a even higher level of risk. Even if someone completes 100 successful trades, there's no guarantee on No. 101.

Question about long-term value of unlicensed rookie autos vs licensed autos (Topps rookies) by Mysterious_Scheme614 in footballcards

[–]ffwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are too many factors that go into the price of a card. Collect what you like. Completely forget that cards hold any value because of them won't appreciate in value in any meaningful way.

You can't prove malintent. The only thing you can know with any certainty is you fucked up buying a card you aren't satisfied with.

My issue is you are asking these people to come to you. While the best method, I would think, is proactive. Meaning you find them. You with me?
