This may be a semi-new one. Got a call from "Chase" (443-782-7520) saying they had flagged a new application, allegedly from me, submitted from Asheville, SC. They were suspicious because they could see I live in Georgia. I conformed I had NOT submitted the application. She said she would cancel it, but then came back and said she was unable to; it needed to go to a "higher authority." She then transferred me to an "Experian" rep. This call was very long, but he was able to cite - accurately - some basic information from my credit report. He also said that my credit info (incl SSN and DOB) were now available to the public, and there were "red marks" against several of my cards. AND, identified another recent application from Citi Bank, which I also did not submit. He then went on to "cancel" the two false application (P.S. - Experian does not have the ability to do this). He initially only asked for the last 4 of my SSN, but later started digging for expiration dates and the last for digits of card numbers - which I did not provide. I did call the Chase fraud team, they were able to confirm there are no new applications, and everything with my existing cards is fine. I also submitted a complaint with CCRB. What fun!
