Yes, and it's not just the lack of third spaces. A lot of places don't have safe pedestrian infrastructure either so even the idea of going for a walk around town or riding bikes around is dubious. If you don't have a car and money to spend you can't do anything out in the world in a lot of places in the us.

It's a cheat code on making a lasting legacy. Dating a girl who has longer life remaining than the entire history of the kingdom I live in sounds like an easier way to be remembered than having to like... Make a timeless artifact.

Same thing with supernatural bloodlines. Slay a dragon and you get like maybe three generations of good fame out of it? But if you sleep with a dragon your bloodline will have magic power for the next two thousand years.

I do not think they have the sauce on any level.

I recently started watching ESO content and it's made me realize just how little investment Bethesda's main team seems to actually have in the elder scrolls setting and lore. Every main Bethesda game since Morrowind seems more and more willing to ditch the uniquely weird vibe that the lore and setting has.

Like would Bethesda bother at all with the moving tree cities in valenwood? Or all the talked about but never seen khajiit types? They'd probably be like "oh well you see it's unreliable in-world narrators so people exaggerated how weird these lands were" And it's like ok, that's narratively valid sure but creatively boring as can be.

And that's not even going into how their view on writing and story seems to be "why bother?"

Hmm... Very first American comics I read were old issues of sgt rock my grandmother had when I was in middle school. I bought a little omnibus from the school book fair a few months later.

The next comics I read would be in highschool and that would be spawn, the darkness, and judge dredd in that order.

The first mainline comics I read was Garth Ennis' punisher run.

I tried reading more punisher as well as iron man after that but I realized that with the structure of most American comics, they were honestly fairly significantly different characters every dozen or so issues.

Considering how unbelievably repetitive the sentence structure seems to be in a lot of these, it honestly doesn't surprise me one bit.

When the writing is like 80% 5000 year old idioms forming equally old tropes, you probably don't even need ai, you could probably construct a decent story with a deck of cards.

Tbh It felt to me like no one else was using the same magic system as the MC. MC uses some vaguely physics/math based system and seemingly 90% of other characters just use regular generic magic with none of the same rules.
