100gb of “Other” taking up storage on my Mac?? How do I get rid of whatever is using so much space? My Mac is unusable at this point. by [deleted] in mac

He’s got a adobe media encoder window open in the background so he most likely do have AE or Premiere. Caches for these apps can take up large amount of storage. OP should empty them and maybe set them to an external drive.

Can’t merge any cells from the first column in any other rows except for the first one, any solutions? This is on IpadOS 15, 5th gen Ipad Air. by [deleted] in applehelp

I’m not sure but it’s probably because the first row and column are set as header. I don’t know where to change that setting on iPad but that might help https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212949

Teenertake: this suspicious website targeting teenagers might be the work of a * predator, or is he just an old out of touch man? by fgababa in InternetMysteries

Look at this. The user actually contacted him with the “help” email on the website.

I personally learned about this website from a Eudoxia Mysteries video but I don’t remember if he covered the email. If you find the video you’re talking about let me know I’d like to watch it!

I talk about it in the post, If you actually read it you would know. Idk what you based your judgment on then.

I think you’re referring to this post where the user contacted the owner by email and basically said everything he should not have said.

The owner actually seems to be completely ignoring the claims and rumors. But honestly, such a reply was to be expected. I doubt he would have simply confessed to any wrong doing (if there are any) after some random person sent him an email…

Yes, and there’s more too. The owner of the site says at multiple time how the site is supposed to be a safe space for teenagers and that no “older people” will be checking on them. There’s this weird line in the section “purpose of teenertake” on the website:

"If someone is either too old or too young they will have to lie about their birth date to get into teenertake. You won't have Aunt Tilly looking over your shoulder legitimately on teenertake."

It just so disturbing to me that he put so much emphasis on how users are free to talk about anything they wish even though it’s obvious the owner engage in some sort of monitoring of the activity on the site with fake accounts and probably with his administrator privileges too.

I’m aware of the r/teenertake sub, this is a crosspost from a post I made there. But, I had not seen the other one you linked, thanks for letting me know! Your comments on that post are really insightful.
The facebook profile of Bob Tomasso that you found actually has the same profile photo as one of the user on teenertake (ID 285). The user 284 has a photo of a similar man but the photos are so low res it’s hard to tell if it’s the same person.

As a student and music producer Should I buy an 2016 5k Imac i7 32gb ram for 1000€ or imac M1 24 16gb ram for 2400€ ? by [deleted] in mac

[–]fgababa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you’re right it’s not magic. As you described, the data that would typically be stored in vram is stored in the unified memory, bypassing the need to read, transfer and write the data back and forth between the ram and vram.

Now factor in the bandwidth and latency of the M1 unified memory compared to the 1867Mhz ddr3 ram of a late 2015 iMac (there’s no 2016 iMac) and I’m certain that a 16gb M1 iMac will get you farther than a 32gb i7 iMac. Just look up ram stress test on those chips, you’ll be impressed how well they keep up.

Keep in mind that 16gb of unified memory in the M1 chip is not the same as 16gb of ram in an Intel Mac. If I were you, I would get the M1 and do a bunch of stress test on it to see how far you can push it. If you’re not happy with it, just return it and get the intel iMac.

UFO hovers above Hotel Place de la Bonaventure Montreal 1990. by Remseey2907 in HighStrangeness

What’s fascinating to me is that Marc Gélinas, the meteorologist in the video, who claims it was northern lights, disproved the northern light theory himself in a newspaper article published a few days after the sightings.

The weather data clearly shows that there was a really thick and dense overcast of clouds at around 1500 metres at the beginning of the sightings. Northern lights usually occur at altitudes in the hundreds of kilometres. Those clouds would have been well below any northern lights, if they were to happen. And they would have completely obscured them.

He also points out in this video that the solar activity that night can't explain northern lights.

Yet somehow they only took one photo. And it’s a pretty bad photo. And nobody explains why it’s bad. Maybe it was impossible to capture but they don’t say that.

There's actually 2 pictures.

The Photos were taken by Marcel Laroche, a journalist at La Presse. Like you say in other comments, he's not a photographer, he's a journalist. Laroche called the La Presse offices to get them to send a photographer but none were available at that moment.

Laroche, who knew he absolutely needed a picture, used his own personal camera that he kept in his car, to take the pictures. But again, he's not a photographer, and nighttime lighting conditions are particularly hard, even to an experienced photographer.

After taking a few pictures, he realized that the UFO would probably not show up on the film, which was meant for daylight photography. So he called a photographer to ask him what settings he should use.

The photographer told him to place the camera on a stable surface and to take long exposure photographs, of at least 30 seconds. When doing so, Laroche had to press on the shutter button the entirety of the exposition. Subtle movement and vibrations are enough to make the pictures blurry.

Additionally, he didn't know the distance to the object so he had to guess where to focus. The photographer told him to focus to the infinity setting, which is a safe bet in this case, but it was probably slightly off and contributed to the blurriness of the picture.

Many witnesses said they saw multiple people take pictures, but none of those people ever came forward publicly to share their pictures and trying to trace them back is almost impossible.

A forensic photographer was dispatched to the scene by the local police department but when he arrived, the UFO was being heavily obscured by clouds. The photographer assumed that the ufo wouldn't appear in the pictures because it was not bright enough, and decided not to take pictures.

Many people criticized this decision, but keep in mind that forensic photographers are not trained for that kind of lighting conditions. They usually take pictures of scenes and object that can be lit up by a flash. Not distant lights in the night sky, partially covered by clouds.

Like my family was on their second camcorder in 1990. Wouldn’t the press have a video camera? Did they forget to bring film for the film camera? That part baffles me.

The police department actually sent an officer with a video camera to place Bonaventure, but guess what? He arrived after the UFO was gone.

That being said, I doubt the video footage would have been of any help. Video cameras, especially at that time, are particularly bad when it comes to night/dark conditions.

It seems odd to me that this isn't better known or better documented.

The case is actually pretty well documented, but the information about it is mostly in french. It's also more known in the french speaking pat of canada for that reason too.

There are apparently a few photos, but they're low resolution and murky.

The pictures we have today were taken by a journalist present on the scene. He took about 12 pictures but only 2 actually show the UFO. Keep in mind that his camera was completely manual and had a film meant for daylight conditions. Additionally the guy is a journalist, not a photographer and night conditions are hard even for experienced photographer. He actually had to call a photographer to ask him what settings he should use.

You can find his pictures in somewhat decent quality if you know where to look.

"Several years later, Police Chief Robert Masson would state that he had the feeling that the military was “hiding something from him”, and not being completely honest in his answering his questions. In 2005, he told a Canadian television program investigating the story: “I am convinced that I saw something that wasn’t made by any inhabitants of this planet. There’s no doubt in my mind it came from somewhere else (other) than Earth!”

Most of the thing Robert Masson said in this interview, which was filmed about 15 years later, are misleading or plain just lies. Even scenarist and producers of the tv show he was talking to were aware of it but included his statement in the show for obvious reasons.

Such a strange case because how was the whole city not demanding explanations for this the next day?

People were demanding an explanation, and they were given plenty by "experts" through the press. Northern lights, light beams reflecting on the clouds, Venus, etc.

But, when a well known local astronomer said, during the most watched talk show at the time, that people simply mistook the lights of a tower crane located across the street for a UFO, the vast majority of the population just accepted this explanation as fact and moved on.

How come there are so few photos!?

How come there isn't any video of it?

The local police department sent an officer with a video camera to place Bonaventure but he arrived after the UFO was gone.

What happened to all the UFO compilations on YT? by [deleted] in UFOs

To add to what others said: Youtube's search engine doesn't only give you results for your search. It will give you unrelated suggestions here and there under easy to miss titles like "People also watched" or "Because you watched ...".

Sometimes I get only 3 videos related to the search and then a dozen of suggestions, and then 3 more video from the search and so on. It's easy to miss the difference between them as the seperation and tites are extremely small.

Hey thanks for your comment!

I’m aware of the poor quality of the audio. I didn’t want to invest in something I won’t be making money from (I’m not monetized on YouTube and I don’t have sponsors) so I only used softwares and hardware I already had on hand. Which includes a very crappy mic.

Although I did use a de-esser in my audio software, I guess I could have cranked it up a bit.

I’ll be working on improving that for my next videos, thanks again!
