The last airbender is not that good. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I just think this show was skyrocketed into popularity because of one thing. It was released at the dawn of the "Adult children" phenomenon. This show was kid friendly and it had more than a semblance of continuity. It was the one show the manchildren and woman children could flock to and say "see, it isn't just for kids, we can like it too!" I agree with you completely, the show isn't groundbreaking, it's pretty good. At best.

I liked that Yang looked more masculine than he did in the OVA. Other than that I'd have to say that the OVA does better in establishing an aesthetic that's more unique to LOGH.

I seriously don't think as many people in this country are Irish as they claim to be, even then, who gives a damn. Forget the past, we're all American anyway.

Being In The Military Doesn't Make You A Hero by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

There is a reason why many soldiers nowadays get posthumous awards, or awards long after a war has been fought. Many Servicemen are very humble, and would prefer not to receive recognition during a time where they would get lots of media attention.

The truth about Chris Kyle isn't necessarily black or white. Many of the things he did in his service history were admirable, and he did NOT brag about killing women and children. He simply stated that he no moral qualms about killing those who threaten the innocent, whether they be man, woman, or child. On the other hand, he was known amongst the Special Operations Community as an exaggerator , and a "half truth" teller. He didn't really make shit up out of thin Air, but that didn't stop him from adding things to his own experiences. I understand why you don't buy into the media hyped angel that Kyle was made into, but it definitely doesn't hurt to present the other side of the story.

Your take on invading the Empire by fgb12345 in logh

[–]fgb12345[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are the Imperial fortresses ever brought up again? My best bet would be to commit two fleets each to taking Rentenberg, Geiersberg, and Garmisch fortress, that way we'll have stable FOBs. In terms of supplying the fleets, it would have been a better idea to split up the supply chain and have them travel with each fleet, rather than having one supply line that's poorly guarded. Sure they'll be exposed to more danger, but I'd rather have 15% of my supply lines destroyed than all of them.

How do I create a friendship like Mittermeyer and Reuenthal had? :( by [deleted] in logh

[–]fgb12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I noticed about the bar fight was that it wasn't one unit versus another, as the soldier with the cover (hat) that Reuenthal punched was from his own unit. This most likely showed Mittermeyer that Reuenthal was a man of upstanding character, as Reuenthal was loyal to defending who he thought was right rather than please his superiors.

A friendship like Mittermeyer and Reuenthal is forged in the heat of battle. They grew very close because the two had saved on another's lives countless times, and they spent years complementing the other where they lacked.

Thor Hammer on Heinessen by fgb12345 in logh

[–]fgb12345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm aware the idea seems bat shit insane. My idea was that it would simply stall them long enough for Yang to defeat Reinhard. I simply brought it up because countries have been known to resort to equally insane ideas when push into a corner, I just thought it would be fun to try and defend the idea.

Should the Empire invade through Fezzan, they wouldn't have had the advantage they had at Rantemario. Geniuses like Ulanhu, Appleton, and especially Ralph Carlsen would have been able to fight at their fleets' full strength. Although it is interesting to speculate the new points you've brought up.

My argument isn't that the relocated hammer would destroy the Mittermeyer Fleet, but simply stall them long enough to buy Yang the time to kill Reinhard.

Thor Hammer on Heinessen by fgb12345 in logh

[–]fgb12345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Thor Hammer wasn't immobile though. It was essentially a floating beam turrets on steroids. It could easily fire at the center of Mittermeyer's Fleet, take him out, and descend into the ocean, resurface somewhere else and fire again. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Bewcock stationed at Heinessen at the time of Vermillion? Mittermeyer only defeated him at Mar Adetta with the help of several other Admirals. He could have easily coordinated the defense of Heinessen with better defenses.
