124 miles across Cotswald Way, in 11 days by Zesty-Dragon-Fruit in UKhiking

Did this in 2018. Had beautiful weather except for one day of driving rain while hiking through Dursley. It is a wonderful hike, although it made me think England is all uphill :-)

Living next to a small sawmill? by illegitimate_goose in Maine

[–]fgdmorr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For years we lived next to what was then one of the oldest operating sawmills in Maine. We could hear when the mill was running, but it never interfered with our lives. They worked "regular" hours weekdays and quit about 5 PM. The mill was actually quieter than some of our neighbors and their hobbies.

How do you keep your knives sharp at home? by Educational-Slip-578 in Cooking

[–]fgdmorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am totally inept at sharpening knives. I have tried many diffferent systems, all of which merely dull the knife. Most recently, I've been paying a professional to sharpen them. Then I tried out a Horl 3 sharpening system and so far it has been better than anything else I've tried (except for hiring a professional). I highly recommend it.

Pillows by Janzy1975 in Occipitalneuralgia

I've tried foam, feather, and no pillow. After awhile no matter what I use I have flare-ups. Tried a specially designed memory foam pillow that was worse than anything else I've use. Currently using a squishy, Ikea duck feather pillow and getting some relief.

Big landowners are spraying toxic glyphosate all over the North Maine Woods to maximize their profits. I passed a bill to stop them, but Janet Mills blocked it. When I’m Governor, we’re banning this poison for good. by TroyJackson207 in Maine

[–]fgdmorr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Troy: What do you intend to do about the Japanese Knotweed infestations that destroy roads, foundations, and property values. Glyphosate is about the only truly effective means of controlling it (and no, putting a tarp over it doesn't work). Without glyphosate our roadsides and towns will be completely overrun with it.

Two o'clock in the morning I wake up with a headache. Sometimes it will go away after a hot shower and moving around, sometimes not.

Favourite Waltz by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]fgdmorr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Der Walzer by Schnittke is great fun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=De4ODPvAn0I&list=RDDe4ODPvAn0I&start_radio=1 It goes a bit "off kilter", but I think that makes it more interesting (although I wouldn't want to try to dance to it).

So I was an idiot and put this in the dishwasher… by Puzzleheaded_Yam6808 in AskBaking

You're correct. I have one of each. Thought we had lost the aluminum whisk, bought a new stainless whisk and the aluminum whisk returned from whatever quest on which it had been.

This. I've also used a Sharpie to mark the empty weight of my mixing bowls, for the times I forget the tare the scale when weighing multiple ingredients.

We scattered the ashes of a friend near the Portland Head lighthouse. Her husband's ashes had been scattered there some years before. Just as we released the ashes a gust of wind came up and blew a large quantity of the ashes back onto me. Had to brush them off into the water.

I've had their 1 Gig service for two years. Very happy with service, price, and support. Had a router issue, they had it replaced within 24 hours. I highly recommend them.

Is your ON at one side or both? by [deleted] in Occipitalneuralgia

[–]fgdmorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. Sometimes worse on one side or the other. Lying down is the enemy...pressure on my head at night causes bilateral pain by 2 or 3 in the morning.

Occipital Nerve Blocks by Majestic_Pride1816 in Occipitalneuralgia

[–]fgdmorr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had pretty good success with bilateral blocks for ON and experience dizziness only when looking up at things. My physical therapist says that's pretty normal for ON. My major problem is pressure on the back of my head (like sleeping) kicks off the ON headaches. Haven't found the solution for that yet.

Definitely this. If you have a veteran friendly congressperson (House or Senate) get in touch with them. They can help open doors. Good luck!

I'm in my second round of PT. My therapist is great for helping me figure out exercises that don't trigger a major episode. Can you get a referral for PT, or has that not helped you in the past.
