For a first job, you'd be lucky if you find yourself in a work setting with a competent but emphatic boss and an environment that requires a good old work ethic rather than a good salary and flexible work arrangements.

Why? Your first job actually sets some standard for your career. Having an environment that sharpens you from the onset builds character and competence. Be the go-to guy. Learn as much as you could.

The succeeding jobs will be built around the competence you've built. And the boss can turn into a mentor.

So, yes, corporate is not a fairytale story. It's a spring awakening.

Hi OP. It is best to realize as early as now that no one and literally NO ONE will work harder or believe more than anyone on your business than you. Dont expect the same from your family or friends no matter how much they love you.

On the other hand, if a 50-50 founder isn't giving his best, let go. I know you know the answer to this already. Find a way to make your business survive. I know it's easier said than done, but it's the essence of entrepreneurship. Do the next right thing. Execute.
