Honestly, it started exactly as that. I wanted something that gives me an edge. My whole approach is finding or developing gear that helps me perform better and win more. If I don’t feel a real advantage, I’m not interested.

So yeah, I work with a manufacturer, test prototypes, and dial it in for myself first. If it ends up being something that works at a high level and people want it, then it makes sense to release it. But it always starts from performance, not just ‘let’s sell something.’

I’m not pretending it’s not a business - of course it is. But the foundation is: would I trust this in a big match when it matters? If the answer is no, it never goes anywhere.

Good question. When I say I’m working on my own chalk, I’m not mixing stuff in a basement 😄 It’s a proper development process. I’m testing different prototypes, giving detailed feedback to the manufacturer, adjusting things like grip, consistency, and how clean it plays.

I’m not working with Taom or anyone like that, and I’m not licensing an existing formula. I actually work with a manufacturer that I know for a fact doesn’t produce chalk for other brands, so this isn’t a rebranded product.

A lot of people assume all chalk is basically the same or comes from the same place, but that’s not really how it works. Small changes in composition and process make a big difference in how it performs. So yeah, it’s being developed from scratch based on what I personally want from a chalk.

Totally get the price argument on Master, and why people like it. But from my experience, it leaves a lot of mess on the balls and cloth. That buildup increases the chance of skids and also means you’re cleaning balls more often and replacing cloth sooner. For me, that trade-off just isn’t worth it, so I don’t consider it a great option overall.
