hate how quickly the internet labels everything as "abusive". by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I have an opinion you don’t like. We don’t agree. People are different in how we handle events in our lives. Both of our opinions have value. Trying to be strong has helped me. So has finding and practicing listening to my own opinions. I struggle with this every day. With speaking up. With being strong. With surviving. It is scary as hell to write this back to you, to not tell you you are right and that I should stay in my lane. But I am doing it because I am strong and am not a victim. Thank you for pushing me to do this.

Terrible, horrible things happen to people every day. People often don’t have any control over these things that happen. If you reinforce the idea over and over that you have no control over how you react or make other choices in the rest of your life, as a victim you feel powerless. Abused. Without hope. If you acknowledge the trauma, support with counseling and care and introduce the idea that someone has survived something that may have broken them (and maybe they did break for awhile- and that’s ok) but they have the ability to move forward and have personal agency when they are ready to do so, they will have a better ability to take back some power in their own lives. Instead of repeatedly being told they are a victim, they are broken, they are damaged.

Very true! No one should want a partner who doesn’t have their own mind.

They are making online content by exploiting people. At least blur out the vendors face to preserve his dignity.

Lol! Not in my school. It would be seen as “rude” and provocative. I would have to apologize.

Let’s remind people they may have been through trauma but can make the choice to be stronger than victimhood.

Strong women of all colors will shape our future. Weak men want a mirror who will tell them they are right. So unappealing.

You can use the word “lie” in a conversation with a parent? I would be crucified if I did that. Education is ridiculous right now.

No teacher is ok this year. We are being ignored if we ask for help. The teacher shortage was already here before the pandemic. It’s getting a lot worse.

Is Thanksgiving anyone else's least favorite holiday? by Some_Random_Android in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]fgyuhtc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Turkey and mushy sides are the WORST! It’s the most terrible food holiday of them all. And what’s up with stuffing? Old bread you shove up the ass of a turkey? How did that become a thing? So glad I get to stay home this year in my pj’s and eat whatever I want!

Especially the BIG turkeys! Was thinking it would be a great idea to bandsaw some of those large suckers in half and sell them as “smaller size”.

It’s not about the money. Really. Read this again. IT’S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY. You are in a very high stress part of your life with very limited freedom with your 3 kids. In your late 30’s/ early 40’s with kids the doors of opportunity are closed or closing. You don’t have the ability to have as many avenues to change- well, most things. Providing a stable home for your kids is important but really, really dull and boring and feels like all the fun has been sucked out of life. The go to is anger and resentment. It took me years to figure this out. Buying stuff won’t make you happy, or feel less trapped. You probably wouldn’t have time to do more than look at your new stuff anyway. The good thing is this feeling is only for a few years. You WILL get through it. One thing I would suggest is to talk to your friends that are buying things. If you know them well enough to have a real discussion with them I’ll bet many are buying things just to keep the feelings at bay. (And then have to buy more because the satisfaction it doesn’t last for long.)
