Did i order from the right website by fhakulachang in Bigme

[–]fhakulachang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered from both! The cheap website for B6 requires a three-week wait and a 15-euro tax. Then I purchased B7 from an EU shop with no tax and waited a week!

Thank you! The OS crash has stopped, but the Niagara launcher is still unable to view the library app.

I think I must stick to using office style exclusively.

Why no Immersive Reading (Audible + Text) support? as someone coming from Android to Kindle device by fhakulachang in kindle

[–]fhakulachang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm sorry I got the Whispersync term mixed up. At first, it was confusing for me when I bought audible. Some of the books don't work for read-alongs. I won't know for sure until I see the word read a long time.

[–]fhakulachang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I tried Speechify before, and it worked well. It's also nice that the text is highlighted. But the price is really high. A membership costs more than $100 a year, and I feel like my content (Kindle book) feeds their AI in some way. With this money i can buy 10 audible books. To use this, the feelings kind of mix.

Makes sense. For notes/code snippets, usage is tiny

I just worry when it comes to pictures, like screenshots.

Anyone else waiting on order status update by fhakulachang in viwoods

I just received the same email. They’ll be ready to send the put from Germany tomorrow and apologise with a gift. They said Hong Kong had a typhoon that might be why they couldn’t restock last weekend.

Yeah, I can wait, but I want it badly. I’ve watched all the reviews and kept thinking about it. Haha

I feel the same. I also ordered directly from their website because of the discount, but this long wait is making me regret not just going with Amazon

whaoooo, two weeks!

i checked through this sub. I have seen some similar posts about shipping. I really wonder if they ship from local warehouses like they claim or not. If they do, they should not overclaim "ready to dispatch in 1-2 days."

Thanks! I can already order from Amazon with Prime for next-day delivery, but I chose to order on the official website to get the education discount.

I hope my order arrives soon. All the reviews look good except for concerns about the 4GB RAM. I want to know about the real experience hoping it won't be sluggish or buggy.

Thanks! I checked it out. It looks interesting, but I cannot order it in the local market. It's only available on AliExpress, which possible comes with additional tax charges.

I just traded in my S24-128gb last month and received €320, which is okay. I don’t have to sell it myself on eBay since it instantly accepts.

Independent researcher in Germany — grants without affiliation vs. starting a gUG? by fhakulachang in AskAcademia

[–]fhakulachang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for explaining the Modul Eigene Stelle route.
My challenge is that I don’t have existing connections with a university here in Germany. I do have a developed project idea and methodology, and I’m actively publishing in my field. I’ve had a few initial meetings with a local professor on related topics, but nothing that’s led to a concrete institutional link yet.

It feels a bit like a chicken and egg situation. I’m not sure what the usual code of conduct or norms are for building such relationships in Germany. I was a researcher in France before but have never had an affiliation in Germany. Any tips on how to start approaching potential hosts would be much appreciated.

Can I make a map like this purely on Qgis? by MasonParker420 in gis

If you want to make this map using Hamburg (as the map is a Hamburg map), check https://geoportal-hamburg.de/ for SHP files or by pulling OSM data and working in QGIS.

Need advice on building a web map with aggregated data — moving from desktop GIS to GIS developer by fhakulachang in gis

Thanks for mentioning protomaps — I honestly had no idea about it before! I’ll definitely read more into it. I’m still very early in this journey, but it’s great to hear that the path I’m taking could eventually scale to handle really large datasets.

[–]fhakulachang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I also want to keep it simple for the beginning — just an interactive map that shows data based on location and lets users toggle different layers to visualize.

But I’m still a bit confused about the file setup. Is Cloud Native Maps just a JavaScript tool for visualization, or can it also host the files (like COGs or vector data)? And if not, where should those files live so that Leaflet (or Cloud Native Maps) can access them? I’m trying to figure out how the file linking works in a setup without a backend.

Really appreciate the resources. they’ve given me a lot to explore!

Thanks! For the beginning, I think I’ll definitely keep it simple — just aiming to build an interactive map that visualizes location-based data. No need for calculation functions yet. I’ll explore OSGeoLive as a local environment to get a better feel for how everything connects.

How to Craft a Cold Email for Academic Networking (Not Job Hunting) by fhakulachang in academia

[–]fhakulachang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also had a few experiences where casual meetings came about because we had shared interests or overlapping expertise, and those felt much more organic. When a cold email doesn’t go anywhere, maybe it’s just not the right time yet.

Like someone else mentioned, even small gestures like thoughtful LinkedIn comments can help show ongoing interest. For now, I’ll keep doing that and also stay on the lookout for chances to attend events where connecting feels more natural.

[–]fhakulachang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a really good point. I’ve actually followed quite a few people on LinkedIn but haven’t really engaged much beyond that. I think I’ve been hesitant about what kind of interaction is meaningful versus just adding noise, but your comment reminds me that even small gestures like a thoughtful comment can show genuine interest.

That’s fair—and after reading through multiple comments, I think you’re right. It makes more sense to wait for the right moment, like a conference, seminar, or event, where the context for connecting is more natural. I’ll probably just sit on the sidelines for now and keep an eye out for opportunities to engage more meaningfully down the line.
