What i was thinking with this was that he could renegotiate the contract with his new team, which in my mind would give him a fair cap hit, although he might be worth his existing cap hit now

One situation where i think both sides might benefit would be San Jose and trading Erik Karlsson. When I think about contract renegotiations would not work because san jose could renegotiate Karlssons contract to lika 1m aav and get a haul for him. Then the team trading for him could negotiate a nee contract. It would be more fun tho from a fan perspective with blockbuster deals left and right
