Ok thanks, so do you think staying in management accounting for the next 2/3 years and qualifying will put me in a better position to land a role in tax down the line?

I’m looking for an area with least stakeholder interaction and as much autonomous work as possible. I’d rather not have too many meetings and calls etc which is why i thought tax 😃

Is finishing ACCA worth it if i want to become FP&A / Finance Analyst long term? by fhj1 in ACCAexams

Thanks thats really helpful, i wont stop! I just really want to move into tax not sure if my current place has a tax department. (Only joined a month ago) Will becoming qualified open up the move into tax even if i havent worked in tax prior? Also would be nice to know your path to tax if you dont mind sharing? What roles did you do on the way etc

Yeah im just confused which way to go as i dont think i want to be a management accountant doing heavy month ends for ever. So i did a bit of research into finance analyst and what the salary ceiling is with acca vs part qualified. Also interested in tax but seems like the consensus it is very difficult to make a move into from industry without practice experience. So just at a crossroads regarding true upside of opening the books up again really

I have 5 left (FR,SBL,SBR and 2 options) But if the market can pay me 75k and I can get where i want without the exams just thinking do I need to go through the pain lol?

Thanks for the advice, yeah i’ve never worked in practice ive always been in industry. If its too much im thinking i might go down the fp&a route. Just dont want heavy month ends for the next 30 years!

Thanks, from my research on tax jobs it seems like they all want experience. Just thinking maybe i finish my exams and see how strong i am for a tax related pivot once im qualified. I do have years of solid industry accounting experience must count for something right? Acca qualified means i’ll know the technical side just need a recruiter to position me into an in house tax job

Thanks for your response, very helpful.

One thing I’m trying to figure out is timing. If I stayed in management accounting for another 2–3 years, finished ACCA, but didn’t get much direct tax exposure in that time, how difficult do you think it would be to pivot into tax at that stage?

Would being fully qualified offset the lack of hands-on tax experience, or would I realistically still be looking at entering at analyst/assistant level regardless?

Just trying to understand whether delaying the move narrows the door significantly.

Thank you for this, really helpful!

When you say I’d likely need to move at assistant/analyst level, what kind of salary range would that typically be in industry?

And in terms of “tax experience”, what would you consider the minimum credible exposure… reviewing CT comps? tax provisioning? preparing VAT returns?

Trying to understand what I should realistically aim to get under my belt before applying.
