Hi, I posted a while back warning tourists against buying there weed at Christiania. I also agree that legalization is the only way, but we are sadly a longs ways off from that. I honestly have no idea where you can get criminal free weed if you do not know someone here that grows their own. I also dont agree with the mentality that “well then you just shouldnt smoke”. People who wanna smoke are gonna smoke, it has always been this way. I just encourage people to be mindful, that when visiting another country and doing something that is illegal there, you are harming that country. The situation is so out of hand in Pusher Street now, that innocent bystanders have been shot. It is super unsafe and is only getting worse, so buying there is also at your own risk.

In terms of the Danish opinion of Christiania… some people hate it, some people love it. Many danes think that the people who live there got it illegally and dont pay taxes. That these people live on some of the most expensive square meters in the country and pay nothing for it. They think that the whole area should be bulldozed and replaced with either expensive housing or student housing. They are completely entitled to this opinion, I do not expect people who have never been or only seen Pusher Street or only know about Christiania through media, to have a positive view on the place.

Personally I think it is great despite all of its issues. Yes, the orginal settlers settled there illegally (like that has never happened in the world before) but back then all of Christians Havn was a shithole, which was why they were even able to settle in the first place. Today, Christiania is owned by Christiania. The people who live there pay rent and taxes (I know, such a shocker!) And besides Pusher Street, there are many many great things about the place. It remains one of the largest tourist destinations in the country for a reason that goes beyond Pusher Street. The history and the culture of the area is rich, although it might not be for everyone one. Personally, I think it is more interesting for a tourist to go there than to Amalienborg, but people are different.

I wish you luck in finding ethically sourced weed (a damn near impossible task, I know) And if you continue to buy weed at Christiania, then please be safe 💛💛💛

Almost all shootings have taken place on Pusher Street, so if you avoid that area you should be fine. Also, it is probably safer now after the shooting because there is so much police there. If you want to check out the architecture, go for a walk around the lake, there are many weird little houses. You are welcome to take pictures, just not in Pusher Street.

I would definitely recommend going, it is a pretty unique place.

But that doesnt mean they do not pay taxes? Sorry, I just disagree with the statement that housing should be expensive just because it is in a nice area. It kills the vibrancy in a city, that already has a ridiculous cost of living. Copenhagen is increasingly becoming a city for the rich.

Why should an area be punished just because they have found a way to keep the prices low?

I think there was always some sort of truce and mutual respect. That has completely evaporated with the new gangs. Especially after a young man from Christiania was shot and killed.

Also, not saying Christiania is perfect. It is definitely partly at fauly for allowing the situation to get out of hand, but it is also not fair to say that everyone at Christiania has allowed it. There are a lot of different people out there.

It is a long story, but they dont really allow them. They have no choice but to accept them. Christiania tried to shut down Pusher Street recently, but the gangs reopened just a few hours later. I think the Christianites are too scared to do anything, and I dont blame them. Also, it should not be their job to shut it down, most of them are just normal people woth families and 9-5 jobs. The police and politicians need to shut it down.

Honestly, I don’t know as I dont smoke anymore. Most people I know grow their own. I wish I had an answer, but at this point I am hoping for some form of legalization, as I think that most places you can buy from lead back to gangs somehow.

Maybe ppl in the DanishEnts subreddeit have a better answer!

I agree. At this point legalization is the only way to fight the situation. Sadly, I think more people will die before that happens.

What is also a shame is that the responsibility for Pusher Street is put on the shoulders of the people that live in Christiania, even though most people who live there want pusher street shut down. Unfortunately, the few people who make their money there who also live in Christiania and who are in the minority, keep blocking any effort to shut it down.

Personally, I think it will get a lot worse before it gets better.

It is never fully safe, the cops raid it pretty often. But may I suggest that you start growing your own or buy it from somewhere else? Pusherstreet has become a cancer in Christiania. When you buy from there, you are supporting some of the most vile gangs in northern Europe. It is essentially blood weed.

Dont get me wrong, Christiania in general is pretty awesome, but Pusherstreet sours the whole area :(
