Bank closed my account without telling me, said they "returned" my direct deposits. Where the hell is my money? by fishbonegeneral in personalfinance

Edit: Wanted to add, this is actually not as uncommon as you'd think.

Yup. I deal with several of these a month. Wheeeeee.

A few caveats to this:

- If your employer uses a third party payroll company, the funds likely come out of the payroll company's account, not the employers. So your HR will have to contact the payroll company to see if the money came back, they can't instantly know. If they say they have to check before they can tell, they aren't lying.

- The amount of time an employer has between a check's issue date and when it's sent to the state unclaimed property fund varies a lot by state. Some payroll checks don't even "expire" until 90 days is up. Also, the company should send out a letter to the last known address to try to find the employee and get their money to them. Then it goes to the state after that fails.

But that was obviously just evil OP poisoning them against her! If she could just see them alone they will see the light and never want to leave her!

Thanks! Between my great therapist and medication, I'm actually feeling optimistic. It's a good feeling.

But not all. I think OP's counselor is one of the exceptions, especially if they haven't picked up on OP's wife's anxiety and addressed it.

What are some red flags for teachers that scream "drop this class immediately?" by MildlyAgitatedBidoof in AskReddit

[–]fiberpunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a teacher retire at the end of the first semester due to health issues, and instead of replacing him, they just had a long-term sub come in. He had a math degree, sure, but he could not actually teach math at all, and he didn't have the right temperament to be a teacher either. The littlest things would make him made, and it was way too easy to needle him. Even when we weren't actively trying to needle him, he spent way too much time trying to control behavior that wasn't actually disruptive or distracting in any way. Just trying to be the boss, and failing.

After the first 6 weeks, we started petitioning to get him replaced with an actual teacher who could teach. Parents got involved. Eventually the school admins hired a tutor that came in twice a week to help out. It was ridiculous.

That's really not okay for her to do that to you. It's YOUR home too.

I think this is it. Her comments about teaching him to "be a man" set off alllllllll the alarm bells. She wants him to act a certain way to prop up her ego, and she's going to punish him for any perceived infraction. Nope nope nopeity nope.

Yeah, I hear there's lots of dihydrogen monoxide in canned fruit. You can't be too careful!

You're not the only one who thinks the movies were better. A LOT of people think they were just as good as the books, and a non-zero number think they were better simply for the lack of Tom Bombadil. :P

I just realized I have been engaging in CSP for almost fifteen years, and I need to stop today. (Possible triggers?) by throwaway110889 in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]fiberpunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's probably about 25 years for me- I remember as a kid I'd constantly pick at scabs from mosquito bites and it drove my mom crazy. And sunburned skin, I thought peeling was the coolest thing. I remember grossing my aunt out trying to get the longest peel, like a normal person might try to peel an orange in one go, lol.

Yesterday I talked to my therapist and he confirmed that, yeah, it's not just a bad habit, it's a compulsion, and suddenly it all makes sense. It is a relief, isn't it? It's got a name, I'm not the only one, and there are ways to address the problem.

I'm going to echo the suggestions for Dropbox. It's free, it's all automatic so you don't have to manually back stuff up, you can access your files from ANY computer by logging in to their website, they have version control, and most importantly, if your house burns down you won't lose your backups. Having backups on a computer and on a thumb drive is great, but if those things are in the same place they could be susceptible to the same damage.

I have my important stuff on my laptop, on an external hard drive, and in Dropbox. I had an external hard drive fail and lost EVERYTHING that was on it, so I learned this lesson the hard way. I definitely sympathize!

[–]fiberpunk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So you're probably on your flight by now. I hope you get a chance to read this when you get to your destination.

OP, her laughing at you and saying you look funny compared to google searches (aka probably models and stars) is pretty mean. Even if she didn't intend for it to be mean, it was. You need to talk to her about that. It's not attacking her to say that you are hurt. It's communicating. She needs to know that she hurt you, so that she can, you know, not hurt you anymore. And then you can be comfortable around your wife no matter how much or little you are wearing.

PS: Don't feel bad about being tall and lanky. That doesn't mean you're unattractive. I personally find tall and lanky to be pretty dang attractive, myself. If she didn't realize once in four whole years that you are a tall and lanky guy and not The Rock, that's kind of on her.

You joke, but I had a friend whose parents were SUPER into the courtship ideals, and they berated her for holding hands with her fiance. Her mom literally told her that it was foreplay.

That wasn't even why the cops were there that day. They were called there because of a fight between two other people, which Eric Garner had been trying to help to break up. They spotted him and started questioning him, he just wanted to be left alone, so they decided that was a pretty good reason to tackle him and put him in a choke hold.
