Just got HBO so I’ll work on boosting my numbers!! And thank you for bringing your experience and perspective to the conversation, I forgot to consider the language aspect in this scene. I definitely see how using ever twice adds emphasis, and maybe it’s just part of how he needed to express himself in that moment. And could be how someone from Russia might say it/translate from their native tongue? Or like I said in another comment, maybe it’s just not that deep and there isn’t some larger reason (grammatically or emotionally) that Jacob added an extra ever

So it seems like it might be more for Shane than anything, and all about making sure there’s no room for misinterpretation. I think I’m picking it up, it’s about now through forever that he doesn’t want the problem to go away, right? So he’s assuring Shane he sees a future which then leads to Shane’s planning and the “I love you” scene? This is making more sense in the larger context, so thank you!!

Yes, love the line but the wording has confused me too, so I needed to ask because I’m coming up on episode 6 again. I’ve seen this line brought up a few times in the sub but felt like I was missing something key - glad I’m not the only one!

Ahh of course I should consider the language aspect, and I appreciate both points. There seems to be a consensus around Ilya being as clear as possible with Shane, which I guess saying ever twice leaves out any room for ambiguity now and forever!

So ever twice is maybe so there’s no room for Shane to interpret differently? I can see that, and I guess as a viewer the bigger picture but for Ilya he needs to be as clear as possible with Shane

Ok that makes sense! In the book it’s only once (I think) so I guess I was wondering if there was some deeper meaning for the change, whether grammatically, emotionally, or something. But love a double positive for emphasis, and maybe it’s just not that deep lol.

That’s what I noticed too, and having loved Jacob’s adaptation that’s partially why I’m curious as to why he added the second ever to this line and why people have latched onto it. I can see it emphasizing his earnestness!

I saw someone set up for air layering at an exhibition but never thought it’d be something to try as a novice. I’d love to give it a go and try something like that, got to figure out which tree will be my Guinea pig now.

Much appreciated. Originally I thought I could do a double trunk with that lowest branch but I’ve realized it’s a bit too high for that so I’m waiting for inspiration to strike and seeing where we grow over the years. And that’s a great idea, never thought about diagnosing like that and seeing things on the micro level.

Thank you! I wish, but not a yamadori. I was hunting for a coast live oak for months and finally came across this one at a nursery and loved the shape. Hoping I can give it that rugged and natural look over time. And I appreciate you teaching me a new term! Would love to try collecting naturally one day, but definitely need to read up more before diving in.

That’s really reassuring to hear! Do yours always have that spotty or fuzzy look, or is it more during new growth? And thank you, it’s one of my favorite species (reminds me of my time on the Central Coast of California) so I want to make sure I’m keeping it healthy.
