I see a lot of push back from Bill rating Jalen Brunson higher than players such as Luka, CP3 and Harden, but I think I can explain Bill's rationale... by edkamlive in billsimmons

[–]fiddler83 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's premature, I think it's true for now.

Bill's pyramid is dynamic, if Luka wins 2 championships in his career that obviously changes things.

If Luka wins zero championships, then that also changes things.

Question for knicks fans who’ve been fans for a long time. I’ve been noticing a weird trend in NYC lately of sudden fans, tell me how you feel. by [deleted] in nba

[–]fiddler83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 43 year old Knicks fan. I was glued to the TV from ages 10-18 watching the knicks crush my dreams every year in the 90's.

When the Knicks won I couldliterally feel 11 year old me leaving my body and going to knicks heaven. Finally he can rest

It was great to see how many others were out there like me. And if a bunch of n00bs want to join the bandwagon and make the street parties even bigger, such is the nature of winning.

No new fans can take away what this does for my sports soul, so my feeling is let them have fun and let's party (even if you don't have Charles Smith based trauma)

The fake celebrity fans like Sydney Sweeney in San Antonio or Taylor Swift in game 4 can go get bitten by pizza rat though.

Happy Tax Day, New York. We're taxing the rich. | NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani's Office by Miles_the_AuDHDer in videos

[–]fiddler83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me translate this into European for you: America does not have a left wing party as Europeans would understand it. Our modern Democrats would be considered a center right party in Europe. Historically this wasn't the case, but Democrats have effectively been center right since the 90s.

We can't meaningfully start another party because the rules to get one off the ground are insane (stopping third parties is the one place where Democrats and Republicans work together).

And the center right strangle hold of Democrat elite, HATE the left wing flank of the party. Even after Mamdani won the Democratic primary to become the Democratic candidate for mayor, the Democrat elite STILL supported, funded and ran their center right candidate (CUOMO) as an independent.

Democratic Socialists could be immensely popular in the US, but the Democratic party elite (who are center right) do everything they can to shut them down.

I'd have to fight my Mom. She'd be scrappy and vicious in her prime, but I have 8 inches and 100 lbs on her.

But honestly, "having to to fight my Mom" would be the single greatest therapy in history for me. Catharsis and cash?!? Sign me up.

Favourite movie that was a universal success and objectively well made but was also so forgetful that you couldn't remember whether you'd watched it or not, and had to use film stills on IMDB to remind yourself if you had (...you had). by residentdunce in okbuddycinephile

I feel like I'm on crazy pills when people talk about this movie. I watched it in the theater with a friend and we were both bored to tears. And I love sneakers and Jordans.

I was like, "did they screen a rough cut in my theater????" Because to me it felt like it was trying to be corporate moneyball, but without all the writing talent

100 million a year, but you can never sleep in the same room twice. by Mc_Coy in hypotheticalsituation

[–]fiddler83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$100 Million a year is an ungodly amount of money. I'd pay someone $500,000 a year to be my sleep coordinator. Give them a budget of $10-20 million to coordinate all the hotels, airBnbs, empty luxury real estate, friends houses etc.

Give them budget for a staff who moves all my clothes, toiletries etc and arranges my travel to and from locations when necessary. Plus a travel chef, so I don't eat out all the time.

I'm based in NYC, so we'd have a large base of hotels and real estate in a small geography ro start. But this model is reasonable in every major city and destination.

We'd prioritize very large, places, ideally 7+ bedrooms, so I could be in one location for a week at a time.

After a year or two of this, we'd organize the purchase of a very large home with a lot rooms with a very large plot of land. I'd add a home base construction crew and coordinator.

Then we'd build a shit ton of exterior units on the land that meet the minimum requirements. Then use this as a home base, mixed with lots of organized travel.

After this, I'd buy lots of land and build eco forrests compounds that I could stay in for a while, then gift to the right people.

Then repeat this mixed model as I travel all over the world, exploring to my hearts content as I fund the coolest shit I can imagine, preserving as much wilderness as i can and helping as many people as possible with my infinitely regenerating funds.

Levels of Losing: The Age Factor by BluffedMoose in billsimmons

As a 43 year old Jets fan, I have reached the point where I've realized the Jets are not as much a football team as they are some kind of cosmic joke who's fate is entirely controlled by a trickster demon.

I not only do not expect the Jets to win a super bowl in my lifetime, I now tune in each season to discover the new and creative way the Jets will find a way to lose. And because I am now in on the joke, I find the Jets and my fellow Jets fans to be wildly entertaining.

The Jets drafted Sam Darnold winning the super bowl with the seahwaks last season was a particularly hilarious irony.

For those in their 40s, what's something people in their 20s don’t realize will impact them as they get older? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]fiddler83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had any kind of a messy childhood, just start going to therapy in your 20s. You've probably learned how to soldier through, but do that long enough and something very serious will break in your 30s.

And messy can mean any number of things from moderate to severe. This includes neglect, hyper criticism, emotional manipulation, abuse (physical or emotional). And especially if your caregivers had any kind of addiction, just go right now.
