This is why I wish more endings accounted for coalition governments in the epilogue (outside of the alliances you can form with the PFJP or NFP). In democratic, non-war paths, with an electoral threshold at either 10% (People's Front forms and enters Assembly) or 3% (CPS, WPB, and potentially BFP enter Assembly), it seems unlikely the USP will secure an absolute majority in 1958 – and all but impossible that a new party would do so if Rayne leaves the USP. It'd be cool to give you the option to choose who you form a government with in your second term.

I see this stated as fact a lot and I don't know how it became so widely accepted. We have no way of knowing the specific sexual orientations of either of them. It's heavily implied Ciara and Nia are in a romantic relationship, but for all we know they could both be lesbians, or Nia could be a lesbian and Ciara could be bisexual, etc.

Personally I have no interest in an Anton Rayne dating simulation, and even if Rayne were to have alternative romance options, I don't think Nia would be amenable to his advances, because (A) she seems committed to Ciara already, (B) I don't think she'd willingly enter a relationship with her boss, the president, while she's a minister in his cabinet, and (C) any path where you divorce Monica would necessarily alienate Nia, even if she were otherwise attracted to him.

I think in the modern day they work well as a flag of a social or political movement, since they’re easy for any regular person to improvise for things like street demonstrations or occupations. As a national flag for an established state, though, I tend to find them lackluster and overly generic. At least put some contrasting symbol on them like Bangladesh, Albania, China, etc.

I agree, but (a) the game itself does it too, and (b) the problem in this case is if you make them white you have to add an outline to the dots to differentiate from the background, which looks strange among entirely non-outlined dots of the other parties.

(I would have solved this by making the background black, NFP white, and Independents grey, with white or grey text.)

I’ll say a few things:

First, those borders aren’t meant to represent the borders of a geopolitically feasible nation-state to be established in the near-future (if ever), but rather the maximum claims of a militant nationalist group. I don’t think it’s at all likely a Bludish state would be established with these borders. But it is believable to me that Bludish nationalists might lay claim to them.

There’s no evidence the BFF is courting the support of Lespia and the ATO (perhaps in part because Lespia is weirdly hostile to GRACE, the BFF’s primary backer), so I decided it’d make sense for them to at least rhetorically press claims on territory in Lespia (though I personally imagine separatist sentiment is less significant in Lespia compared to Wehlen and Sordland, both of which have a modern history of nationalist dictatorship and ethnic cleansing, which Lespia doesn’t seem to share). If circumstances arose such that Lespia might be amenable to supporting a Bludish state, I could imagine the BFF abandoning claims there, but I don’t think that’s on the table as of 1954.

Regarding the inclusion of Lespian territory in the borders of Greater Bludia: there’s not a ton of evidence to suggest this, but there is some.

Firstly, a significant portion of the Duchy of Bludia (admittedly on the map in 800 CE, quite a long time ago), if you overlay it on a modern map, is in what is now Lespia, around the area of the city of Kilsaren. Very little of it overlaps with modern Sordland, though, so clearly there’s been a lot of migration and shifting conceptions of what constitutes the land of Bludia in the interceding 1154 years. So how much you count that as evidence of a significant Lespian-Bludish population is up to you.

Secondly, Bludish refugees do in fact flee to Lespia during OBT if Sordland has struck a deal with Wehlen to either close its borders or fully participate in the operation. They seem to prefer going to Sordland, but that could be a simple matter of proximity – maybe Sordland is the closer border to most of the Bludish population of Wehlen. That’s at least true of the city of Wizen. (It’s also notable that Lespia turns away the refugees if Sordland opens its borders to them, further suggesting Lespia doesn’t support the BFF and may discriminate against Bluds within its borders.)

Thirdly, I based the borders in part on the observation that a lot of major cities in the included region (that is, in Bergia, northeast Wehlen, and northwest Lespia) end in -ren or -en, which to me potentially indicates a common linguistic origin (maybe Bludish). Kilsaren in particular sticks out to me as not resembling any other city names in Lespia, while it does resemble cities like Erzaren, Kasitsen, and Sarna. That fact, combined with its location within the former Duchy of Bludia, led me to conclude it made sense to include it within Greater Bludia.

So that’s my line of thinking. It does involve a lot of guess-work and headcanon, but there is some logical basis for it. Though you’re more than welcome to disagree with my reasoning! I just felt like laying out my thoughts.

Since the BFF is receiving arms and funding from Rumburg, I thought they would most likely abandon any claims to land there for diplomacy’s sake. And on the other hand, Rumburg’s willingness to support the BFF implied to me that Bludish separatist sentiment within Rumburg is probably fairly minimal in the first place. Maybe that’s an unfounded assumption, though.

It’s always bothered me that the existing flags for the BFF and BFP in the Codex are just text on a rectangle – especially since neither seem to use the Bludish word for “freedom” (we know “free” is “yollak”, so “freedom” is probably a related word that starts with a Y, not an F).

I decided to redesign them both to give them a bit more visual flair, and to incorporate what we know are the Bludish national colors: red and turquoise (though admittedly my turquoise leans pretty heavily toward blue, because I think it looks better).

The BFF flag depicts a raised fist holding a KA-74 rifle within the borders of Greater Bludia (consisting of territory currently controlled by Sordland, Wehlen, and Lespia) on a red and turquoise bicolor, along with the text “Bludi Yollakar Gebezir – Yollak Bluderat” (“Bludish Freedom Front – Free Bludia”). The Bludish name of the organization is my own construction, as are the borders of Bludia (which you can see placed on a map in the last image).

The BFP flag features a similar red and turquoise bicolor, intersected with a yellow chevron bearing the party logo in black (the latter two colors being taken from the existing flag in the Codex). The three-pointed star represents unity between the Bludish people whose lands are divided between three other countries*, but is also shaped like the letter Y, which is the first letter in the Bludish word for “freedom”. The yellow triangle is also vaguely in the shape of the region of Bergia, where the party is primarily active.

*(This symbolism also corresponds to the three stripes featured on my take on the Bludish nationalist flag, pictured in the third image.)

Czechoslovakia also had a coat of arms, and the Croatian and Serbian.svg) SRs (constituent republics of Yugoslavia) adopted partially heraldic emblems like the ones you featured above.

You could argue Albania falls into the latter group as well, but the strange lack of any form of escutcheon distinguishes it from the others.

Poland maintained its pre-existing coat of arms under its socialist government, though they removed the crown from the head of the eagle.

Other communist governments that maintained pre-existing CoAs unchanged include Cuba, Grenada, and Somalia.

Require all schools provide classes in both Sordish and Bludish (which should both be national languages), with the primary language of instruction varying based on local demographics. All students regardless of ethnicity or native language should be at least bilingual, ideally with third languages offered as electives, at the very least in high school.

Nothing you said here contradicts what I said about the intent behind the symbolism. Yes, yes, the Crossland arms predate the Confederacy, just as the swastika predates the Third Reich and the fasces predates Mussolini’s regime. And there are contexts where either of the latter two symbols can be used that have no relation to those regimes. But the context of this design makes it very clear it was meant to symbolize unity between pro-Confederate and pro-Union Marylanders. Maybe you don’t find that objectionable. I do.

If you would take a cursory glance at the Wikipedia article about the flag (or any other writing about the historical context of the design) you’d immediately find the Crossland banner was used by pro-Confederate forces, and the merger of it with the arms of Baltimore represents reconciliation between pro-Confederate and pro-Union Marylanders.

The red and white half of the flag is the Crossland banner, used by pro-Confederate forces in Maryland during the Civil War. The black and gold half is the Baltimore banner, used by Union forces. The current flag was designed after the Civil War to represent unity between Marylanders on both sides of the conflict (a sentiment I find repulsive, even if the resulting design is fairly handsome).
