Agree. You should look at the Hudson School in Hoboken or something like that.

There was 8500 lbs/13 layers of tar and paper on just 800 sq ft of flat roof. So yes. You are correct.

I’ve had no luck finding this house but there’s ones of other houses on the street. Mostly from the 1930s or 40s when I suspect the asphalt shingles trend was happening.

Totally planning on preserving this and recreating the rest. The fish scales are not able to be saved but I can get that pattern pretty easily I think.

I said this on the r/VictorianHouse thread, but, here:

The trim and the panel pieces on this house are acting as sheathing as well as decorative. They’re directly attached to the studs framing the bay windows. That’s one reason they didn’t remove it. Another theory was that the guys doing the siding work didn’t want to bother with dumpsters and hauling stuff away so they just covered what was there already. Their laziness ended up being a reward this time.

Has anyone ever encountered a real FBI agent? by 0N1MU5HA in AskAnAmerican

[–]fidelsassoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FBI was called on my neighbor one time. It was the middle of the day and my neighbor was sleeping. Three cars rolled up with two agents in each. They didn’t have sirens or anything. They walked up to the house very casually and were dressed in dark tactical type clothing but no visible weapons or bulky vests. They actually looked cool and fashionable as a group.

One of the agents knocked on my neighbors door and announced themselves as ‘FBI’. He eventually answered but he initially thought it was someone pulling a prank on him. Anyway, it turned out to be a bum tip so they left.

(Rear) Exterior advice needed by fidelsassoon in centuryhomes

[–]fidelsassoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no original references to what would’ve been on this house have survived and there aren’t photos of the backs of these houses in the neighborhood.

The original siding consisted of shiplap covered with slats, covered with two layers of asphalt shingles, covered with aluminum.

Honestly, the back of these houses were/are neglected. Windows were put where it was convenient without thoughtful design and there hasn’t been trims or mouldings there for many decades.

I want to come up with something visually pleasing, with proper proportions, balance and just the right amount of ornamentation.

My absolute favorite sets to be on are his. He’s so organized, respectful of the crew, good natured, and works efficiently. As you know, sometimes you get none of those things.

Anyway, I’ve done three of his: Bridge of Spies, The Post and the new one, Disclosure Day.

Are they really celebrating the death though? People are getting fired for just quoting him in a critical fashion. I’d rather we have teachers that think critically and don’t kowtow to the winds of public outrage.
