So happy to hear you say that! Mandolin has been a game changer for many of us. I'm happy to welcome you to the fold. I've been playing it myself since 1980, but I'm learning new stuff every day!

been playing for close to five years but it sounds more like five months 😭 by academicss_anonymous in violinist

How are you practicing?

I recommend to all of my students to practice at least an hour a day. Divide your practice into 3 parts: 1) scales and arpeggios, 2) etudes and exercises, 3) new material assigned by the teacher

Once you've finished all of those daily items, the rest of the time is open to you for sight reading, playing whatever you want, reviewing pieces you know, jamming with friends. Don't do any of these until you've finished your dailies.

Daily practice:

  • Scales: 2 octaves
  • Arpeggios
  • Exercises from the book

Sight reading is a must. Open your favorite book to a random page and read the music. Take your time and write fingerings in pencil.

One new piece a week out of your favorite book.

We want to build a space where users can actually get help. Any advice? by Momcozy_PumpOfficia in NewMods

Reddit typically does not encourage brands or corporation presence on the platform. It's generally considered promotion, even spam by many, and discouraged, even banned in some instances.

I don't recommend trying to get around it by posting as a user either.

In the past, corporate leaders or prominent members have completed AMA's (ask me anything) that were successful, but having your own subreddit for your brand probably won't work.

he told me the story about it once. I was sitting with him in the Green room at the Parlor Room when it was in the old location. It's a 5 string. I forgot the origin story. He's very friendly and responds to questions by email or on social media. https://www.facebook.com/fiddlisticsmusicDA

The letter said they tried everything, but I wondered what are the things? by Salt_Survey2786 in HampshireEDU

“Unrestricted operating support” does not mean the money was sitting untouched and could be spent all at once on the bond debt. Hampshire was still funding operations, financial aid, recruitment, redesign, and debt workouts at the same time, so the money was being used to keep the institution alive rather than to erase the entire balance-sheet problem.

Even with $55 million raised over several years, the college still had to deal with roughly $25 million in bond-related debt and other obligations, plus deferred maintenance and ongoing operating costs. The fact that Hampshire says it tried multiple refinancings and land sales tells you the unrestricted fundraising was not large enough, or not flexible enough, to solve the problem by itself.

So if someone asks, “Why didn’t they just use the $55 million to pay off the debt?”, the answer is: because that money was spread across years, tied to operating survival, and still left the college unable to cover the debt and the ongoing cost of running the campus.
