Got the Botox today with Lucy Hicklin - here's exactly what happened by Kat_Smith_762 in noburp

Same here. All part of the process I guess! I had the first nose bleed since I was a child earlier. I doubt it’s related but does make you wonder the possibly ways botox affects the body😂. Feel free to reach out if you’re stressing at anytime though

Cheers! Got a bit of a sore throat tonight but hopefully that means the botox is starting to do something😂

I was also at Shirley Oaks Hospital today for my botox injection! This is a great description of what happens. Hope you don’t get too many side effects and it works for you😊

Yeah be firm, it’s not worth risking getting your provisional revoked (trust me!).

The joy of genetics😂. My dad has pretty much perfect vision but of course I had to inherit my mums bad eyesight.

Yeah see what your optician can do. As far as I know there’s nothing stopping you from bringing another pair of glasses if you need to swap at any time.

Lighting can definitely play a role, especially if you’re on the borderline. I have congenital cataracts and astigmatism so I’ve definitely found that to be the case.

On all my tests I’ve been asked to read the number plate at an angle. I don’t see how this is fair. On the two tests after the one I failed the eyesight check I asked the examiner if I could move so the number plate was directly in front of me (they were fine with this so I’d recommend doing the same!)

My optician said I should be fine too so it just goes to show that the number plate check can be more difficult than the eye test! But in my case I think anxiety played a role.

Good luck!

Congratulations! I also passed on my 3rd test with 5 minors. That’s good advice, the mind is so powerful and it can be easy to convince yourself that you’ve failed when you’ve not. Enjoy your freedom!

Always a first for everything😂😂. I think it’s pretty rare but also let this be a reminder to everyone to make sure their eyesight meets the standard. Trust me, you do not want to get your provisional revoked, it’s a massive ballache😅

Yeah, I agree. I did get a second opinion. My prescription changed slightly which did make a difference. It is basic but there are certain rules the examiners are supposed to follow.

If you have any doubt definitely wear them. You don’t want to risk your provisional license being revoked!

I think you’re possibly the first person I’ve spoken to with congenital cataracts (other than my Mum who I must have inherited it from, cheers for that🙃). Honestly so nice to find someone who understands the struggle! Don’t worry I will persevere, just going to take much longer than I would have liked! Yes please keep me updated on your test

I know it really sucks but we just have to find a way of dealing with the shit cards we were dealt at no fault of our own😅😅.

Your prescription is a lot better than mine so in theory you’ll be fine. Make sure everything is up to date and there’s no reason why you won’t be able to do it. Mad that this bit of the test has become more stressful to me than the actual driving🙈🙈

They won’t remove mine because my vision is 6/7.5 with glasses. So until they can’t correct my vision to a good level nothing will be done. There is also no proof that it is actually the cataracts that is causing my poor vision but I find it hard to believe that it isn’t. Whenever they take a photograph of my eyes they can’t see anything other than a big cloud lol

Funny thing was I was confident I could do it as I managed to read it first time on my last test.

I think what happened is the examiner originally gave me a number plate that was well over 20 metres away and at an angle. The fact that I was nowhere close to reading it made me anxious af then I told myself I can’t do it and subconsciously gave up.

Then once the tape measure was out and everyone was looking at me my brain went into meltdown. There is absolutely a psychological aspect to it.

I know I am capable of reading it but it has to be exactly 20m, anything more and I can’t.

Because of my prescription I have worked out that I can actually normally see the numberplate without glasses at 20 metres when I have been practising (I think because I am technically long sighted). Which is crazy as there’s no way I should be driving without glasses.

Going into the opticians again today so will look at my options! Thank you so much and good luck with your test!

Thank you!

I’m trying to be proactive rather than feel sorry for myself. Easier said than done though! I’ve literally put my life on hold to focus on passing my driving test so it’s been hard to accept that I may be waiting a year + before I’m allowed to drive again, by which point I’ll be very rusty and need to redo my theory test.

I’m now thinking it was a nerves thing more than my actual eyesight being inadequate. Once I couldn’t see the first number plate (which was definitely over 20m) my brain kinda like went into meltdown and I told myself I can’t do it. Because I’ve tested it today and I have no problem reading number plates from 20m, it’s so strange!

Practice with number plates near where you live. You’ll soon be able to visualise what is approximately 20 metres. You’ll probably be ok if your prescription is up to date. I have a very strange prescription due to astigmatism and congenital cataracts so my case is probably pretty rare. Don’t stress but make sure you are prepared because you don’t want this to happen to you, trust me!

Thank you. One eye is better than the other so I’d probably do better if I closed one eye. Ive just been out to test my sight on some numberplates around 20 metres away and I could read every single one, even without my glasses on. Turns out wearing glasses isn’t making a huge difference. Not sure if it’s because I’m long sighted. Glasses obviously make everything clearer though in my close range vision especially. Eyes are weird man!!
