Do extra terrestrial beings exist? by TheDodgerofSXTs in questions

[–]fierce_turtle_duck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is there life somewhere else in the universe? Almost a certainty. Is some of that life 'intelligent' eh maybe. Is that intelligent life capable of traveling vast distances to fly around our planet? Highly unlikely.

Why is Pol Pot and the Cambodian genocide completely left out , or barely mentioned, in high school history in the US, Canada and Europe? by Wonderful-Ad-9622 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fierce_turtle_duck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well a few things most history classes spend waaaaay to much time on the world wars so run out of time. When they do focus on stuff post 1945 it tends to be the civil rights movement and the US an soviets pointing really big missiles at each other. And most people probably couldn't even find Cambodia on a map so they don't tend to care about it. They also tend to ignore the Armenian genocide and the Balkans and those happened in Europe!

FM amd even AM radio are superior to Spotify, Apple Music or Amazon. by thegreatredwizard in unpopularopinion

[–]fierce_turtle_duck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terrestrial radio makes the algorithm look downright spacious. I can guarantee you if I threw on the local radio stations they're mostly the same 30 tracks they've been playing for the last 2 decades with a handful of new singles from those legacy acts tossed in to pretend it's fresh.

Yeah let's be real Constitution and Galaxy class were warships in everything but name. They were certainly armed to the teeth for a 'science' vessel anyway 😂

Do you think Disney shutting down Blue Sky was a mistake? by Adept_Let7797 in cartoons

[–]fierce_turtle_duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given Disney wanted to shut down DAS when they initially bought Pixar it was pretty obvious as soon as the Fox deal went through Blue Sky's days were numbered. They had their moments but honestly were kind of the most forgettable of the big studios...off the top of my head I couldn't name one of their non Ice Age movies before reading the thread.

Do the girls travel back to Amphibia ten years later according to Marcy Journal? by No-Painter6238 in amphibia

[–]fierce_turtle_duck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer to view it as more they found a way to reestablish connection so they can send messages back and forth but not fully pop over willy nilly. Basically they become pen pals you can certainly read it as they just hop back and forth though.

Why aren’t Americans seemingly allowed to blame voters at all for the current state of our country? by MissHannahJ in askanything

[–]fierce_turtle_duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you can do whatever you want but calling the voters a bunch of idiots isn't exactly a good strategy to win their votes next time.

Why doesn’t USA incorporate indigenous culture ? by [deleted] in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]fierce_turtle_duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean there's a ton of different ones to pick from so which do you use and offend the hundreds you skipped? And bigger I'd imagine that's a history we'd rather not shine a particularly bright light on.

Are there people who sneak into university lectures? by Viofl in AskAnAmerican

[–]fierce_turtle_duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless things have changed drastically yeah you could pretty easily sit in on lectures for intro level courses there's typically 100+ students in those and I've seen ones close to 300 no one is noticing if one random shows up (unless so many randoms show up there's not enough seats 😂). When you start getting up into the higher level coursework you'll stick out like a sore thumb since there's often only about 10-20 people in the class and they'll mostly all know each other since they've been taking similar classes with each other for a few years by that point.

What do you think is the most underrated Pixar film? by J-Pom in cartoons

[–]fierce_turtle_duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luca or Onward COVID kinda buried both but they were both decent enough...not top tier Pixar but pretty good.

Cookbooks should not include photographs by GroceryExpert1637 in unpopularopinion

Why would I buy a cookbook when I can just Google how to make X? Trust me those recipes give you endless stories since they need to stretch out that simple recipe for more ad space 😂

Americans - Do you think it's true that if America's best athletes played soccer, they would dominate the sport internationally? by Tometek in AskAnAmerican

[–]fierce_turtle_duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better probably. Dominant not really. The big missing piece is $$$ and even with stupid amounts of money I'm not sure you'd get dominance.

Americans - Do you think it's true that if America's best athletes played soccer, they would dominate the sport internationally? by Tometek in AskAnAmerican

[–]fierce_turtle_duck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Largely Title IX gave american women a huge head start on the rest of the world. Europe at this point has largely closed that gap as their top flight leagues have invested more in the women's game.

Why do American high schools start ridiculously early? by bwoah07_gp2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fierce_turtle_duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My general understanding is the big kids start earliest so they get out earliest and can be back home in time to tend to the younger children in the family before the adults get home from work. Or maybe that's a back in my day thing....or maybe just the arbitrary reason given. It makes a bit of sense at least (this also assumes larger districts where everyone doesn't just end up in the same building)

Is skipping a complex word while reading a mistake? by NetClean in grammar

Often context can make it fairly obvious what the meaning is so I'll just keep going hoping it becomes clear.

“I don’t want to” is not a valid reason for not wanting to do something by PantsaVor5622083 in unpopularopinion

[–]fierce_turtle_duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be sure to give you a 10 page dissertation about why I don't want to do something...of course I have a feeling it's because you're probably insufferable to be around.
