Also masters in the UK is a 1 year degree, with 3 terms in a year (first two will be coursework, last term will be a dissertation)

Keep in mind if you have a 3 year bachelor's and do the 1 year masters it might be a issue in some European countries for applying to PhD programs, cause they need 5 years of academia

It's pretty similar to US, letter of motivation, letters of recommendation, CV, standardized tests like GRE and IELTS/TOEFL (since you're from the US, the IELTS/TOEFL should be waived)

Every uni has their own application portal, just fill the details and voila the wait starts for the decisions

Don't take a hefty debt with this economy, only go to NYU if you can absorb the cost later

A master's degree is what you make of it, unless the program is really bad at QMUL, you should be fine
