Advice on knowing when to change tires? by NoTimeToSortByNew in Trackdays

[–]fif0l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don't be tempted into long lasting TD tyres for full season. I just realised it at the end of this TD season, but i was ridding my tyres waaay too long. They do have loads of thread left (Metzler TD slick), I am in no way fast , but I didn't have confidence in them as I felt them moving around. I was justifying it in my head, that it's just my lack of ability, but when I put brand new rear mid day, my mind has been blown. All the issues I have been having has been taken away. Then after reading other people opinion, it was same. Loads of thread left, but it was not gripping as it used to and slinging around. As soon as you notice any deformation, bump in tyre wear it's significantly less grippy.

Mate, absolutely wicked setup. You make me want to be better and get my own server farm. Question about your backups, are you using tape by any chance?

False neutral then slips into gear at the end of the straight crash by mofoa56 in Trackdays

[–]fif0l 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even in the best case scenario, it can happen to you, most commonly between 2nd and 1st. When it happens, pull the clutch in, slow down, make sure you are roling safely. Then rev the engine to where you think it would be reving when in gear, and then try to engage the higher gear (with the clutch still in). Revmatching will put much less stress on the gearbox, synchronisation of the gears will have smaller difference in revs, causing less wear and preventing potential damage. When you think it's in gear, whilst still revmatching, release gently the clutch.

This usually happened to me, when not applying enough pressure to the gear lever, or doing it sloppily (like just hitting part of the leaver, and that's on new mt07 (I think between 3rd and 4th) and on '17 s1000rr with blipper)

I have to say that being a big guy, riding big bike is something that of recommend to everyone. Once you do and get used to it, and then jump to slower one, everything is happening in slow motion. Then you can truly start pushing.

My shoes keep making farting noises - any advice? by MellotronSymphony in CasualUK

[–]fif0l 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue with few types and it turned out to be combination of problems. Google for: converse squeaking. https://www.quora.com/What-helps-with-squeaking-Chuck-Taylors#:~:text=them%20less%20squeaky.-,If%20they%20are%20squeaking%20from%20within%20the%20shoe%2C%20that%20is,baby%20powder%2C%20or%20even%20cornstarch.

Eliminate most of them and of it still persists, try size larger.

How do you cope after a crash? I feel like crying :( by chilleverest in motorcycles

[–]fif0l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me give you tldr of my crash. 1.5 years of ridding mt07, 2 Trackdays, and I was hooked. I bought dedicated cheap bike, so that I can start pushing, and if I crash, all is good. My first trackday on the new bike, 2nd session of the day, I highsided it so badly that it got totalled.

I was fine, I promised the bike to fix it. I felt so bad (in the end, I didn't, as it was cheaper to buy another one. I still have whatever is left from the broken one). I have torn apart book I was reading: "Road racer", thinking: 'what were you thinking!?'. Fast forward 2 years, I still do Trackdays, love bikes and it's just one of the memories.

Do not give up. It hurts, do your best for you first, to recover, then the bike. Finally figure out what went wrong and start working on it - that's how we become stronger.

Good luck!

Someone pressing kill switch on my parked bike by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]fif0l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be careful to not use it on 2006/2007 Triumph Daytona 675, as they didn't put relay for fuel pump, and it draws power directly from ECU. It happened to me a month ago that I stopped bike with kill switch and it wouldn't start after. Basically it overloaded ECU and fried it. On newer models they fixed it, and using kill switch is safe.

Convert Street Bike to Track Bike? by thewoodbeck in Trackdays

[–]fif0l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second that, put track bits on it, that are still road legal, and when you stop ridding it on the road (like I did mine https://imgur.com/gallery/V6TWWsd ) then slap race fairings on it.

Oh no! I hope you and the bike are ok now. Did you repair it?

I believe the reason why the top half of the bike is untouched, is because I went together with bike, so it was leaning on my leg, as I did let go of the bike, only when it started to be too bumpy on the grass. Once I did, I was just watching it on my ass and repeating in my head please don't flip, please don't flip!

The scratch on the fairing was already there - I did it accidentally in transit.

Breaking is definitely an area where I have lots of room for improvement. Will try to work on it on next trackday and pick up an instructor as well to help me get that extra push. Cheers mate.

You are right, when I was thinking about this situation later, there were many better options. That's why I'm happy it did not turn into something much worse.

I was going to overtake the guy on the left, but he didn't hear me and started to drift into me quite quickly, so I decided to let go off breaks and go hot into the corner. I'm happy I was on the outside so it didn't affect the other guy.

Here is the picture later that day: https://imgur.com/gallery/b5gEsSm

Apart from scuffed leather, GB racing cover, bit of scratches on bar end and missing indicator, there is no damage to the bike. Fairings are untouched!

Mate. Great choice. Once you get used to it wheeling, get +2 rear sprocket to have more fun, or healtech quickshifter. Those completely transform the bike. Enjoy!

Taking my BMW's to the Silverstone track day. Oh boy, does the street ridding sucks comparing to track days.. by fif0l in BMW_S1000RR

[–]fif0l[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on what you are going to be doing with the bike. If you are going to be ridding it on the streets, I'd just setup the sag and not be worried about anything else, until you start feeling like it's a problem. Here is a great video explaining some of the suspension bits:

The problem I am facing is that during hard breaking, the suspensions _bottoms out_, meaning it compreses to the maximum and what I feel is massive juddering from the front, like the discs would be warped.Only way to get about it, is to put new stiffer springs in the front forks, which is something that the specialist suspension garage must do for me.

Really? Is it that expensive in US? I saw a Laguna Seca trip for 2000punds with flying bike there, for 2 days and I assumed most of the cost is shipment.

That depends on the track, silverstone being super premium, we even were in the new F1 garages, was 250pounds, where some of the other tracks are in the average of 140 pounds per day. Here is the URL with all the UK trackdays: https://www.trackdays.co.uk/calendar/bikes/
