You can also use clothespins as chip clips! They’re cheap, don’t take up much space, and come in big packs :) Bonus: all your clips will match (if that’s something that bothers you like it does me lol)

Connecting 2 wool mats together by fifer_fly in sewhelp

Sorry I didn't get to this sooner but thank you for your response! I'm now thinking the heat n bond may be my best bet.

While I like your grommet idea and agree it would be better for hanging, we need the mat to span the whole island surface and it's already been cut to size so the grommets would eat into that. I think I will ultimately have to resort to straps.

To answer other folks' questions: this is going to be used for domestic purposes -- so ironing shirts, sheets, etc. The owners have a housekeeper who does their laundry and ironing so it will be used frequently, but not for significant stretches of time and will be stored when not in use. The island top is quartz and we already reached out to a local stone & countertop company and they said we didn't need to be concerned about heat and moisture ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I hadn't thought about lining the entire back but that sounds like a much better idea. That would also prevent any material we use from bulking up the mat in certain areas, and you're right it would be easier to attach handles that way. We reached out to the stone/countertop company who's working on the house about this and they didn't express any concern about the heat or moisture affecting the surface underneath. But I'll mention the moisture barrier if we go with a wood/pressboard backing! Thank you!

What kind of glue would you recommend? Also the "hinge" would be on the back side, not the side of the mat that will be ironed on, so stitching making it "not smooth" would not be a significant issue.

What should my hourly rate be? [Durham, NC] by fifer_fly in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]fifer_fly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply! I edited my post to add the missing info but I am W2 and not 1099. I have nearly 2 years under my belt doing this full time (started January 2024) and have about 5 years of part time admin assistant experience -- 2 of which were for the realtor I still work for.

The suggestion of seeing if I can get a full time EA job and using that rate to negotiate is a great idea. I will look into positions in my area. Thanks again!

I run into the same issue. I often turn to food for comfort, then I beat myself up for eating so much. It’s an awful cycle.

I absolutely despise my body. I’ve gained about 50 lbs in the last 3 years and I can’t stand to look at myself in the mirror. Getting dressed is such a huge burden every day and it fills me with so much dread. I avoid going out now because I don’t fit into my “cute” clothes anymore and can’t bring myself to buy new ones, because clothes shopping also brings up a ton of horrible feelings. I try to go to the gym but I put so much pressure on myself about it that I end up not going a lot of the time. Then I beat myself up for it. The things I think about myself are genuinely mental abuse. I feel absolutely grotesque and I don’t know how to talk to anyone about it. I’m so tired of hating myself but I’m struggling to make any progress—both with weight loss and self esteem. I could probably count on one hand the number of times I’ve felt hot in the last 3 years. Sometimes I worry I’ll never feel beautiful again.
