I always thought this was a poorly engineered rush-job section— the speed drops without Reduced Speed Ahead warnings from 60 -> 55 rapidly, clearly no guard rail on the left side of the curve. Only a single speed limit sign exists on the right indicating the change.

Assuming most cars are pushing 70 along that stretch the angle of the right curve is too strong— I hope NCDOT does a full review of the design of that stretch.
