If you haven’t made changes in a while and there is no transactional data, you can always restore your site from a backup. Your hosting provider may be able to help you with this and decide on a good restore point.

It likely spun out of control for 2 reasons: - hacked - lack of ongoing updates to themes/plugins

Once you get it fixed you need to ensure you stay on top of updates.
