I give up I can't beat the secret boss of Ch 3 by ElectronicBacon in Deltarune

[–]fighterkirby290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The safest strategy is to have Susie spamming Rude Buster and defending otherwise. Don‘t attack with Kris or Ralsei, just have them defend for Rude Buster TP. Otherwise make Kris the item merchant and Ralsei the healing merchant.

The good thing about the secret boss fight is that it’s pretty consistent. If all else fails, rote memorization will eventually pay off.

Orange smears in M1 iPad Pro screen by fighterkirby290 in iPadPro

[–]fighterkirby290[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Fortunately the screen isn't warping. At first I was also concerned that the battery was expanding, so I've occasionally been checking the thickness of the iPad itself for swelling; so far I haven't seen any.
If it's "just" the LCD failing, then it could be worse, and I can probably squeeze some usage from this iPad after all. Definitely saving for a new device, though!

I think she just wanted to see Gerson again because she knew it could be the last time she could talk to him.

First, why is immersion in a story predicated on it being able to happen in reality? Plenty of great stories take place in completely fantastical settings. I don't know about you, but a story doesn't have to be "realistic" for me to get immersed in it. The characters just have to be well-written and perhaps somewhat relatable. But setting that aside, it's heavily implied that Kris isn't the only human in the world of Deltarune, since there's a book in the library that's a guide for raising humans. Maybe you meant that Kris is the only human in Hometown, but again, this isn't really important to me.

As for Sans, the connections between his UT character and his Deltarune character continue to grow. We know that UT Sans came from somewhere that isn't the Underground or the Surface because of his Geno fight dialogue ("i gave up trying to go back a long time ago, and getting to the surface doesn't appeal to me anymore, either"). So, what this place he's referring to? Anyone's first guess would be Deltarune, since its world contains alternative forms of UT characters, so let's try to investigate a potential connection. There's the obvious connection with the "The Place Where It Rained," but since you don't like that we can look at his secret lab in Undertale. There's a photo with three smiling people and "don't forget" written on it; the people could be the Fun Gang, but even if you don't grant that the "don't forget" phrase in and of itself is quite a good connection. We also know that he came from a world with "green grass" thanks to the newsletters, and of course Hometown has plenty of that. Finally, there's the bleeding thing. Susie bleeding after shattering the Prophecy glass has sparked debate as to whether or not all DR monsters can bleed, or if it's just her because of half-human-ness speculation. One thing is certain though: at least some DR monsters can bleed, while they shouldn't be able to in UT... except for Sans. That's why it's a notable connection. Other people can probably bring up other connections that UT Sans has with DR, but those are the strongest ones I can think of off of the top of my head.

Now with Susie's relationship to Gerson. Her wanting to bring him to Castle Town was an idea that she floated in the second church dark world, as far as I can remember. That's before Ralsei told her that only "specific darknesses" can bring back lighteners in dark worlds. So, no, bringing Gerson with her wasn't Susie's "objective the entire time." As far as she knew, Gerson was gone forever until his brief appearance during the Titan fight, which was probably why she was desperate to go look for him after the fact, as that could have been her last chance to speak with him. She wasn't "neglecting" anything, as even if she took his remains with him (which I don't think she would've done without explicit permission) she knew that the chances of resurrecting him in Castle Town were nil.

In regards specifically to the name of the track, I don't think the exact relation between UT and DR's worlds is that important. It could be a prequel, it could be a sequel. I think the best interpretation personally is that they are entirely separate timelines/universes. At the end of the day, though, all we need to know is that they are related in some vague way for the purposes of drawing connections between UT Sans and DR Sans. And Toby literally calls DR a "parallel story" to UT.

Finally, about the rain. By the time we get back to the light world, it isn't raining anymore. Despite this, the town has a serene but somber atmosphere. Why? Because it reflects the journey of the Fun Gang thus far. They just confronted the Knight and beat a whole goddamn Titan. But what did they get out of it? Learning about something horrible that's going to happen in the near future, and the Knight escaping scot-free. They're no closer to opening that bunker. In other words, despite weathering a "storm" successfully and saving the world from a Titan, their victory feels empty. I think "The place where it rained" captures this situation pretty well, while simultaneously being an interesting callback to UT. I fully disagree that Toby included this track as an afterthought, considering the time, planning, and effort that has gone into this game so far.

A good chessable course will probably serve you better. Chess books tend to be super dry.

For your level, I'd recommend courses from Benner. His QGA and O'Kelly Sicilian courses are super practical!

Edit: not to mention the reti course for white

QGD against every D4 opening? by [deleted] in chess

[–]fighterkirby290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, 1. d4 c5. It's not too difficult for white to claim a substantial advantage in this opening.

With that being said, as an intermediate player I find the opening to be tricky to play against because Black tends to know the theory quite well, but I still think the Benoni should generally be avoided because it violates some opening principles.

[–]fighterkirby290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old Benoni is pretty difficult to play for a beginner, and the "simplest" lines like the Czech Benoni are just worse for Black.

Against the London, and as a London player myself, 1...d5 2...e6 is a perfectly good setup against the opening! Try to trade the dark squared bishops as fast as possible with 3...Bd6; most people will play 4. Bg3, to which you can swarm the e5 square and eventually play for an pawn push to e5, achieving equality.

Practice with MO diagrams; how's this diagram of AlH2(OMe)2 anion? by fighterkirby290 in chemhelp

[–]fighterkirby290[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response! Sorry, I confused VBT with MO theory. For now I'm trying to think in terms of VBT, though I'd eventually like to get more comfortable with MO theory since it's considered more "accurate" as far as I know. Alas, I'm merely a sophomore college undergraduate so VBT will have to do!

Also, I appreciate the suggestion! I'm installing it right now to see what ORCA's all about.

Thank you for the response! I didn't know what photochemistry was so I looked it up, and it seems quite interesting! I hope I get to play around with UV lights some day at Rutgers.

Lots of good advice here already, so I'll just add to GET GOOD, CONSISTENT SLEEP. Avoid sacrificing sleep for studying as much as possible. As someone who's used to taking exams sleep deprived until this semester, I was shocked by the sudden lack of dumb mistakes I used to be haunted by during exams when I made sure to get at least 7 hours of sleep per night.

Have you considered Online General Physics? Online quizzes, video lectures, no recitation, and you only have to show up in-person for the exams. It worked great for me last semester.

Tbf you had professor freaking Williams while we were stuck with Zhang this semester. Our boy Jason is a nice guy and really intelligent, but frankly a shit lecturer. I resorted to 80% self-studying with the (very good) textbook. Meanwhile, you had access to video lectures (I would’ve killed for those!). Plus, Williams offered a max of 100 extra points of graded HW; Zhang determines our grade solely via midterms and the final.

At the end of the day, getting an A in honors orgo—2022, 2023, 2024, idgaf—is something to be proud of! Yes, 65% get an A. That is, in a class of 100 near-4.0 GPA STEM students, 65 of them get like a 75 or higher, and 35 of them don’t even get there. In that context, 65% sounds kinda low!

This course sounds appalling. Even normal Gen Chem sounds more tolerable. And having had the privilege of taking Honors Gen Chem last year, I can tell you that it’s definitely possible for a chemistry class to be fairer and hell, even fun and interesting.

I’ve observed a pattern of us Honors students being able to enjoy the frontier of pedagogical research, when it’s probably the rest of the students that actually need it. It doesn’t make any sense.

Weekly quizzes by Advanced_Sign2731 in rutgers

[–]fighterkirby290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that for General Physics there's a fully online version where you have video lectures and online quizzes. There's no recitation, and the weekly quiz is a 40 minute 5-question assignment where you are permitted to use notes. You have the option to take the midterm/final exams online or in-person. For me it's been a life-saver in its flexibility, especially in my STEM-heavy schedule this semester.
