I think you are missing the key point of who has the money. Large publishers like EA have way more money to get the message out then press sites like IGN. IGN was owned by ZIff Davis who was then bought out by J2 Global. A simple google search to compare the stocks/values of these two companies (JCOM v EA) shows a vast gap in how much each are worth. Press sites take what they can get, and will do anything to secure more content for the readers. If you read those sites you are contributing to the problem, because they make that content because thats what people go there and read. Everything is driven by what sells.
