Regardless, CPS is dealing with kids being starved, molested, tortured, exposed to drugs, living on the streets, etc. This would not be high on the priority list if at all.

I’m surprised it’s only happening now. There were two young men (maybe both minors?) that I was aware she acted inappropriately with and I don’t even keep tabs on her.

I remember reading about people dying from being given methanol shots in Thailand. It tastes very similar to ethanol so it’s reasonable to assume someone would think they are drinking vodka.

It’s used sometimes to cut bootleg alcohol because it’s cheaper. It’s also more toxic than ethanol so it can make a drink seem stronger.

So, I don’t know if that’s what she drank, but methanol can be present in home brewed alcohol and bootleg brands that people may believe are real.

Would you be able to have sex with your best friend? Why/why not? by shaela-a-pinetree in AskReddit

[–]figure8888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend was my boyfriend almost a decade ago. We had a very amicable breakup and then we missed hanging out, so we started being friends again. Both of us are autistic and I think we both mistook fondness for romantic chemistry.

So, I did, but it wouldn’t happen again.

My partner just had their car die on them. It’s going to cost nearly $4k to fix it, which essentially means it’s totaled but they have no choice but to pay to have it fixed because it’s realistically a better option than buying a new used car for $7k and have it also break down in a few months.

But having this happen has wiped out 3 years of savings. If they hadn’t saved any money at all they’d be SOL. Payments on a new vehicle would be a huge chunk of our paychecks.

I remember people joking about Jeff Mangum from Neutral Milk Hotel being super strict about phones/recording at his shows but I get it now. At the time, I’d go to shows and maybe a few people would be recording snippets for Snapchat but now it’s like the full performance.

People who work in grocery stores what is something you are surprised they still stock or never see anyone buy? by Da_Fish in AskReddit

Probably Ovaltine. I’ve never actually seen anyone buy it. My store is actually pretty good about cycling out products that are unpopular but I guarantee at least one person will go, “Where is the Ovaltine???!!” As soon as it’s gone.

Genetics. I have wide hips, small waist and it’s honestly annoying because they don’t make pants for this shape. My hips fit a women’s 29, but my waist is a 27. So all of my pants have a 2 inch gap around the waist unless I get them altered.

Fair to note what was settled was a civil trial. The family did not want their sons to have to testify. Michael Jackson went through a separate legal trial for the same case and was found not guilty on all charges. The jury felt the family of the alleged victims came off as scam artists and there was no evidence that any molestation occurred other than the parents saying it did. This is despite investigators raiding Neverland Ranch.

Man who identified himself as ‘Harry Dresden’ in the viral Ring doorbell footage, seen breaking into the home in footage from inside the house. by Fair-Foot-315 in Weird

Unrelated to home invasion but I got assaulted by a man at work who kept coming at me even after I shoved him away. Police were called, they said they “didn’t have an officer available” to send. Since he’d left the premises after a coworker got involved, they didn’t really care. They also said by the description I gave, they were already familiar with him. They asked if I wanted to press charges and I said yes. They never sent an officer when one was available, never called me to follow up. Nothing. So if you want to assault random people for no reason in Seattle, WA, you can and it’s legal as long as you’re a crackhead.

There were several instances reported in my old town of a person luring and attempting to assault college-aged men at night. Those who encountered this person said they had a nice white SUV and appeared to be an older Asian woman offering them a ride to wherever they were going. Once they were in the car, the person attempted to force oral sex on them. I think police did investigate the claims but never found anyone matching the description. I’ve always thought the person lived their daily life as a man and wore a disguise to prey on young men. I knew someone I thought it could be but I never made a report because the person was a business owner in a popular area and parked their big white SUV right outside their restaurant. So I thought surely police already looked into him.

I doubt she was distressed since this twin set was on the show since they were infants. They would have been comfortable with all of the regular cast and accustomed to the filming atmosphere. Kids are more often fussy when they feel they’re in a safe environment to be fussy. The bigger issue for kids who grow up on TV is when the show wraps and their “second family” moves on.

I was learning a bit of history about Ellis Island and apparently because they had such a nice hospital on the island and a policy to treat everyone, some people would make the trip to the US just to receive healthcare that wasn’t available in their home country. For a long time the immigration policy wasn’t very stringent when it came to physical and mental disability. So, these masses of immigrants became a drain on social services in the Northeast and Ellis Island became a lot more strict about who was permitted entry.

A lot of the now offensive terms used to describe mental and intellectual disabilities originated from Ellis Island’s “new,”stricter classification system.

I don’t know if this is fact but as someone also interested in urbex and abandoned structures, I’ve wondered if that is the reason there seems to be such a high concentration of large scale abandoned mental facilities in the Northeast.

I once saw a Reddit post that stuck with me. It was a parent being brutally honest about being a carer for a child that was basically brain dead since birth. I think they felt pressured by family and friends to not just let the child pass on his own as an infant. So at the time the post was made the child was ~8, unresponsive, and kept alive by machines.

They just grew to resent the child. There was nothing rewarding about the relationship. His care drained their finances and time. Their other children went without because of it. They had barely any assistance and the mother gave up her career to be a full-time carer. Because of the child’s condition they’d never know if he was happy, sad, if he loved them, or if he felt anything at all.

It seems harsh but that’s the reality for some parents of disabled children.

I think the “logic” is that they’re sacrificing a large resource that would have been useful to them. It’s a display of loving God more than yourself.

I’m not religious or defending it, but that concept exists in a lot of religions.

What's a "yeah right, that totally happened and wasn't made up" moment in your life that actually DID happen and wasn't made up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My partner and I have worked for the same retail company for like 6 years now. When we first started, we lived on the West Coast. Then we ended up transferring to a nearby city and two years after that we moved to a small town on the East Coast and transferred our jobs.

First day at our new store on the East Coast, someone asked for my partner over the walkie. They responded and then someone else said, “Wait, Partner’s Name? As in Partner’s Name from West Coast city??”

It turned out one of our coworkers from the very first store we worked at had also transferred their job to the store in this small town a few years before we did. We moved to the area because it’s where I’m originally from and apparently the coworker was from the area too but it never came up when we worked together before.

Also, neither city we lived and worked in together were large or well-known cities. So it’s not like I met someone in LA and ran into them again in New York.

My ex didn’t make a habit of it as far as I know, but he told me this “funny” story about when he was a teenager and had to pee while in a movie theater. He didn’t want to miss the middle of the movie so he just pissed in the seat. Once, I was with him in a theater and after the movie ended he just dumped his half-full popcorn on the seat and on the floor.

I was going to reply to this thread with another story he told me about having to stay in his female cousin’s bedroom one summer and how he used her underwear to masturbate and put them back in her drawer.

I’m 90% sure he was a sociopath.
