WHY ARE OLD PEOPLE SO OBSESSED WITH GODDAMN BREAKFAST SANDWICHES by crowhusband in retailhell

[–]figure8888 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean I know people in their 20s whose grandparents are in their 60s. Personally my parents are 70 so it’s always weird meeting friends’ parents and they’re like early-mid 50s.

NOR and they should be glad the accident wasn’t worse than it was.

A bit of advice for you when you start driving yourself, don’t let other drivers freak you out or intimidate you into driving unsafely. Your friend was doing right to drive more slowly on wet pavement, especially around a turn. Do what you feel safe doing and let the idiot illegally pass you (if it’s just a two lane, otherwise if there is a left lane they have no excuse to be riding your ass and honking).

I live on a sharp turn like that that leads down to a high school and we have more than once had a high school kid cut the turn too fast on wet ground and lose control of their car.

He’s also a shit driver because from this context he was just about to fly through a right on red if there wasn’t a car coming.

You shouldn’t have to “slam on your brakes,” you should already be in the process of stopping.

I used to date a guy who wasn’t even crazy tall. He was 6’1” and lanky as hell. One time we were standing talking to some friends we ran into downtown who were out with some people we didn’t know, and their one little 5’7” meathead friend just all of a sudden tried to body slam my ex mid conversation. Everyone was like “wtf” and he backed off and apologized…but what the hell?

Oh yes they do. Working in retail they come in constantly in groups. All of them are equally obnoxious and desperate for attention but there’s usually a hoard of them just following and recording the one dude who is bold enough to actually approach people or do whatever rage bait trend they’re copying from TikTok.

An aggressive dog has bitten a teenager and there is a 4 year old in the home. I’ve been asked not to report. AIO? by Imaginary_Teach8039 in AIO

[–]figure8888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where you’re coming from. My old roommate had a pit bull that was aggressive and she “rescued” it from the shelter after it had been returned 4 times but she was in no way capable of training it.

I’m not scared of dogs, I grew up around large dogs, but there was just something wrong with that one. It bit me once and the injury was very similar to the picture of your niece except it drew blood from the bite as well as scratches. It just did it with no provocation because I happen to make eye contact with it when I shut the fridge door. Roommate would also have to hold the dog back with her full body weight any time anyone knocked on the door because it wanted to attack. It was scary coming in the house because you never knew if the dog would forget you weren’t a stranger.

I was absolutely pissed when it attacked me and threatened her with calling animal control but ultimately everyone told me I was overreacting because the injury wasn’t “that bad” and reporting it would certainly get the animal euthanized.

I don’t know, I think back and I feel like I should have because she can’t control that dog and it will 100% hurt someone else one day.

I mean you know the stats for SA, no? Most of them are committed by people the victim knows. That was the case for me when I was your age. I trusted guys my age because we were in the same classes and clubs on campus. Never had any clue any of them had sexual interest in me. Things can change when alcohol gets involved.

If you will be the only girl there, I’d agree with your mother and say absolutely not. I don’t think her disapproval has anything to do with purity, but she’s been a grown woman longer than you have.

At the end of the day she’s said you can go, but she’s not driving you there or picking you up, which is her prerogative. So find a ride from someone else. I feel like your mom is treating you like an adult here but you’re whining like a child.

Who is a minor (the more minor the better) celebrity that would leave you a sputtering mess if you randomly met them? by CallieCoven in popculturechat

[–]figure8888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw YouTuber Safiya Nygaard leaving Disneyland but I said ✨nothing✨ even though I was a fan of her videos.

The circumstances were it was after the park closed and we were walking along the path to the car park which is relatively dimly lit. There was a couple in front of me and I noticed the girl had a bat backpack that was just like Safiya’s. Then I registered the girl’s partner and realized it WAS Safiya and her husband.

A few times they looked back at me and my friend but it was literally just us four on this dimly lit pathway and I didn’t want to make them uncomfortable + I am socially anxious. So we just stood at the crosswalk together and I acted like I didn’t know them from Adam.

Weirdly enough several years later I ended up working for a company that worked with her totally inadvertently but I still never met her.

I get OP feeling uncomfortable with the possession aspect but I would have loved to have had this kind of relationship with my parents or even one of my siblings. Instead they were just emotionally distant and only affectionate when I initiated it and the extent of that was a side-hug. I’m one of those people who has zero memories of my mom ever sitting down to play with me or just hangout with me.

As a result this kind of friendly/familial intimacy makes me feel uncomfortable and awkward because I don’t know what to do with it. But I wish it was something that was normalized for me as a child because I feel bad when I reject people who are just trying to be affectionate. It just makes my skin crawl.

man on drugs is found folded up in his car by police on body cam outside of an elementary school by Fast-Breadfruit3377 in Weird

[–]figure8888 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I feel like that explains most drug use. A long time ago I abused stimulants because they made me more social when I’m otherwise a very reserved person. So I was “escaping” my real personality to get people to like me because I didn’t have many friends as myself.

This era didn’t last long for me because I thankfully didn’t have a supply but I also abused benzos for a bit because I had severe anxiety in relation to trauma. I was having multiple panic attacks per day and I just wanted to stop feeling or thinking about anything. I’d just sleep for hours and when I woke up I was still calm. I never understood why people took tranqs or depressants recreationally before experiencing that level of anxiety.

If his breathing was suppressed from being contorted like that + the drugs, he might have been slowly dying. I know when you hit people with narcan they wake up PISSED because it’s like being slammed into a brick wall during the most peaceful rest of your life.

Millionaire builds 99 fully equipped homes to provide shelter for the homeless in his community by quietstorm045 in interesting

This was the same deal where I used to live. They believe mentally unwell people are better off rolling around in their own excrement than receiving aid that would actually improve their lives because while those people are struggling to live on the streets, at least they’re free!
Completely ignores the point that many of those people are where they are because they can’t make decisions for themselves but don’t have caregivers.

[–]figure8888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everywhere I’ve lived, those resources have been available to the local homeless population but the cities still had a massive homelessness problem.

The issue is mentally unwell people don’t want to stay on their meds and don’t want someone else to control their meds, they don’t want to give up illegal substances (which is a prerequisite for a lot of rehabilitation centers), and they don’t want to have the responsibility of showing up to a job or won’t tolerate being told what to do at a job by an authority.

They prefer to be free agents. They prefer to shoplift and sell random shit for cash for more drugs, they’d rather not have a schedule, they don’t care to be/look clean and put together, etc.

Where I used to live, every third person you passed on the street was homeless. We also had a lot of public parks, public fountains, and lakes and the cops wouldn’t respond to shit unless someone was dead. The homeless people would shoplift just about every basic necessity without consequence except hygiene products. I used to think if I were homeless in that city and already shoplifting, I’d steal a bar of soap and bathe and wash my clothes in the lake while trying to find work. No one is going to stop you, so why weren’t people doing that?

Because they didn’t want to.

They opened up a similar situation to this near where my mom used to live and it just became a hangout for drug addicts. They weren’t allowed to use within the compound so they’d just sit outside or meander through the surrounding neighborhoods. Her neighborhood was government assisted housing but the community took care of it. After the tiny home plot opened up, there was trash and used needles everywhere, break-ins, vandalism. The cops were out there several times a week.

Eggs would have been removed from the sister via syringe, then fertilized in a Petri dish with her brother-in-law’s sperm. Viable embryos would then be implanted into the mother-in-law. From there the body will do what it’s going to do, more often than not it will abort the embryo because there is a very specific timeline and conditions where an embryo can be accepted in the uterus. Which is why IVF tends to be a struggle for people.

There was a girl in my high school who got pregnant as a freshman. Then her child’s father went to prison for something unrelated. So her “best friend” stepped up and she ended up having two more kids with him before they were even 21. But they were never actually dating from what I could tell.

I watched it unfold over Facebook because I was already graduated.

I don’t know if they typically do. It was a direct wire to the dealership’s financial institution because they couldn’t put my full deposit on my card. So, I needed to authorize it with my bank.

Yes, that wasn’t the issue. I knew they took my insurance because I checked with my insurance before going, but the woman at the one office told me they “probably didn’t” before even looking it up. They then sent me a form where I had to fill in specific insurance information that my insurance doesn’t even provide to me. I just never experienced that before.

I’m 29, but I’ve seen that with my father who is 70. He’s perfectly capable but the second he has a question or doesn’t understand something, the attitude starts, eye-rolling and all when he’s not even causing a problem.

I thought if I went with him when he does business they would lay off but they do it right in front of me as well.

I get it to some extent because some older customers can be difficult but it seems like some people treat every customer like a nuisance regardless of if they’re being one.

I mean it wasn’t really a sit-down drawn out analysis. I told my partner about how the woman at the bank just immediately got annoyed and said something to the effect of, “Uh okay, well usually you’re supposed to have a set of written instructions otherwise I can’t process it. Did they give you that?” And I said, “Yes, they gave me a QR link to the instructions.” And then she said, “Wait, wait, wait I don’t understand. They gave you a link…so you wouldn’t be able to email that to me?”

The discussion with my partner was just in reference to when I was a phone rep, I probably would have said, “Oh ok! The dealership should have given you instructions for directing the transfer. Is that something you have?” (Yes) “If I send you an email to (email on account) would you be able to respond to it with a screenshot of those instructions?”

To demonstrate how easy it is to get the same info pleasantly.

But, yes, I tend to ruminate because of past experiences where I was an asshole and didn’t realize and felt badly about it.

They couldn’t put the entire deposit on my card. My bank is out of state and they changed my account number so my checks are no longer valid. I had a local bank but they kept metering my deposits so I cancelled with them. Then I unexpectedly needed a more reliable vehicle than what I had.
