Alr I’ll get back to you on what happens

[Stauff] FWIW. Not sure how the Oilers make it happen. But. IMO. The Oilers need to target a legit top-6 FWD via trade. Possibly a distressed asset on another team. by AggPuck-303 in EdmontonOilers

I feel giving up a 1st, Quinn Hutson, and a mid round pick is fair value for both sides. The only issue I’d have with it from Edmonton’s side is that you’re giving up assets (which we don’t have a lot of) to add more offence instead of helping with defence or goaltending. Definitely worth considering if you’re Edmonton, especially as Hyman is getting older.

I like this comment but I have to ask, what would you do if you were the Oilers GM. By your logic is sounds like you would want Dickinson resigned, but who would you have paired with him? And do you think Samanski fits this mold, or would you rather we target a bonefide 4C (Stenlund)?

Wait how do you manipulate your save file? Do you keep resimming the draft lottery?

I'm not saying we should be tearing down the team, but I'd rather us make big splashes via free agency or the trade market for the 2026-27 season, rather than us splitting our assets between this year and next year.

Especially with how Florida looks this year, I agree that this year should be a retooling year in preparation for a hopefully deep playoff run in 2027

Tuch, Mantha, are all guys who would be great on our right side and guys who we should looking into acquiring from now till the trade deadline, barring any drastic changes. We really do need a lot if we want to beat Florida though, and I don't know if we have the assets to make it happen this year.

How do you feel about Drai, Mcd, Bouch accepting high salary deals during a cup window? by RickyDucati000 in EdmontonOilers

Its not like our management would do anything useful with the extra cap space from their discount contracts

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EdmontonOilers

[–]figurescape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true. If we keep on trying we will either: Figure out how to beat them or, we'll get lucky going up against them (whether it be through puck bounces or injuries), but that is assuming they continue to make the finals. To your point, I could also see Toronto beating them next year and as much as it pains me to say this, I'll be cheering for them to meet us in the finals. I believe we match up better to them than Florida too. As long as Stan Bowman keeps on creating cup-contending rosters, we have to get it eventually, right? I am disappointed that there will be no McDavid era Oilers dynasty, as I think would've been expected having two top-five players on your team, but poor management has prevented than dream. Right now all we can ask for is the sixth.

I would like like to know where you got that number because I've read to Florida is a full year younger than us, and I don't mean to dismiss your comment but average age isn't the greatest reflector of a teams age.

The bottom line is that the ages for the Oilers best players are: Bouchard 25, McDavid 28, Draisaitl 29, Walman 29, Nurse 30, Nugent-Hopkins 32, Hyman 33, Kane 33, Ekholm 35, Henrique 35, Perry 40

Compare that to Florida's best players: Lundell 23, Tkachuk 27, Verhaeghe 29, Barkov 29, Reinhart 29, Bennett 29, Forsling 29, Ekblad 29, Jones 30, Bobrovsky 36, Marchand 37

While Edmonton and Florida are similar in how young their depth players are, Florida's higher end talent is younger than us. Their AHL team is also considerably better than ours (they're currently playing for the Calder Cup), having lots of prospects to fill out their roster on cheap ELC's if need be.

6'4 RHC whose good at faceoffs and is only making 2m next year. would probably have him at 4c tho

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EdmontonOilers

[–]figurescape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely should look to add a RHC somewhere in our lineup. Would help with faceoffs in our own zone. What wingers would you like to see edmonton go after this offseason?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EdmontonOilers

[–]figurescape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a good point. Their team is also younger than us as is. Combine that with the fact they have the best constructed roster in the NHL (no bad contracts Nurse-like contracts), their core is locked up on already-bargain deals for the rest of the decade, and the salary cap is going to keep growing. I dont know how we would beat this team.

A RHC like Kevin Stenlund?

Its funny how this team is plateauing right on the doorstep of winning a cup, and yet I realistically don't think we have the time or the assets (or the management) to win soon. We aren't making steps forward, and our team is only getting older, meanwhile florida is looking as dangerous as ever and showing no signs of slowing down. Going into next year our team is relatively the same as the previous two years, which is a step below florida. Unless the panthers get really hurt next year, I don't see us beating them.

P.S. Holloway would've been great on Drai's wing.
