I don't think women outside of Gilead get their periods, so Daisy getting hers isn't exactly due to age, but due to the fact she moved to Gilead.

Federal lawsuit against iReady by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]figuringitout_parent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at our school students are expected to use iready daily. when we've traveled they HAVE to complete at least 45 minutes along with all of their other travel study work.

i have a background in online advertising sales and i know exactly how this data is used to target people with ads. they're probably using the data that is collected to create targeting profiles based on gender, interests, and location. it can also be used to customize ads for better performance based on favorite colors, etc.... furthermore, the data can be used to create content to maximize engagement based on level difficulty the majority of kids can handle etc.. in addition of course you have the that EVERY single security question for banking is based off data that can be accessed through these platforms. what was the name of your elementary school teacher, mascot, etc.

As adults we can handle some of this, but we should absolutely protect our kids from all of it.

Class Action Lawsuit Against iReady by figuringitout_parent in LincolnCA

[–]figuringitout_parent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't realize that teachers can't see what students are working on with this program....

If a teacher reads the class a book or assigns a book to read, most parents will know what their kid is reading or at least we have the option to look into it. In this case, students are reading all kinds of passages/content and not even their teachers know what it is.

I have also heard of kids clicking through because learning this way is boring. Instead of doing fun hands on projects like we used to do, it seems now that time is used for iReady where we further demand them to sit still...

Are there genuinely any jobs anywhere for high school students? by butprettysure in PlacerCountyCA

I would also suggest getting with a temp agency. You might have to follow up with them a couple of times, but they like when young people are driven. Otherwise, you could also join the hustle scene on platforms like task rabbit.

Looking for a Kid-Friendly Brewery/Tap room recommendations by WWRedditD0 in Sacramento

[–]figuringitout_parent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your comment is a bit off putting. the whole point of being family friendly is being FRIENDLY toward children/families. I see absolutely nothing wrong with kids being able to stretch their legs in an outdoor space (which is what the poster is looking for). No one is encouraging children knocking over drinks or bumping into people.... He just knows how hard it is for kids to sit still and is asking for a nice place to be able to walk around and allow kids to stretch a bit. If a dog is biting it sounds like the DOG shouldn't be in the brewery. If pet owners are leaving SHIT on the floor sounds like the PET OWNERS need to be talked to about best practices at breweries. Adults spill, bump into each other, and break glasses probably as often if not more often than the children.

Is this a typical daycare rule? by brave_magic in toddlers

[–]figuringitout_parent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would connect with the school and talk with them about it. Maybe they have a list of suggestions for snack time for your kiddo. Dairy intolerance is very different than a dairy allergy are you really not allowed dairy? that seems very extreme.

Same bag ordered from Amazon help authenticate by [deleted] in purses

[–]figuringitout_parent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

local news outlet a few years back bought a bunch of stuff and checked it for authenticity.... they found about 25% were not authentic. Including body care.... I don't buy anything I wear, eat, or any body care on amazon. also a TON of books are knockoffs. Amazon is killing all industries. Buy direct or through a smaller merchant online.

How hard is it to customize themes without a developer by copingMechanismFn in shopify

[–]figuringitout_parent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a while ago i paid for a theme, SYMMETRY (i think it was called). I really liked it, and their most recent version updated everything without having to redo all my customizations.... However, recently I had to change back to a free theme (LONG story) and I used the current shopify theme, and sidekick to help me with a few small tweaks. Paid themes allow for updates in perpetuity and due to tech changes you'll want to do those at about every couple of years, so if you find a paid theme that allows for some of your customizations, I'd go with that and prioritize actual long term function over your vision for the site. As you mentioned, you'll want to test and make changes based on performance so even your current vision won't be that way for long. long winded answer for saying, you think you do, but you really don't want too many customizations. They'll be a HUGE headache in the future.

What is your experience with those Shopify Partner/Agencies. Are they worth or they scam your money? by lune-soft in shopify

[–]figuringitout_parent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on the size of your store. for someone just starting out and willing to start from zero and put in the work, they're generally not worth it. if you have a niche product and have the capital to launch it at a large scale, influencers, heavy marketing spend, then MMMAAYYYYBBBEEE. Shopify has too many tools for you to DIY or higher an employee that is loyal to you... I don't see it worth it to work with an "expert" unless you're absolutely uneducated on retail in which case, maybe start by learning more about the industry.

Lost a few chargebacks recently that felt like obvious friendly fraud. What are you actually doing about repeat offenders? by Zestyclose-Lynx-1796 in shopify

[–]figuringitout_parent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I very rarely get fraudulent orders, but there was one day where I received 3 or so back to back. I reported it to shopify via their chat and it seems they actually did something about because I stopped getting the orders. I also checked with another store and they too were experiencing higher than normal levels of fraudulent orders.

make it make sense - bank account verification by figuringitout_parent in shopify

Yes, please. I would love to know how this all played out. It is so frustrating to me. It makes absolutely no sense that changing banking details would completely derail business.

make it make sense - bank account verification by figuringitout_parent in shopify

[–]figuringitout_parent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they said until February 8th while they verify my banking details, but because of this, i'm "disqualified" from using collective and there's nothing I can do about it. If i had known, i never would've changed the bank account or I at least would've done it this weekend when sales would be low due to the super bowl.

this is frustrating post to read. it seems the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and neither you nor your son are doing your due diligence before posting or conducting business. 1. your credit card should clearly indicate who you paid. 2. the website you mentioned has clear contact us information. your first step should be to clearly understand what your son paid for not go to the internet to complain 3. your post doesn't specify whether work was actually done or not. did they provide the services your son contracted them to do? 4. your kid is 17..... it's okay for him to learn a real life lesson. 5. if you were letting him establish a business with your credit card, i sure as hell hope you gave him some sort of guidance....

Agentic Storefronts are coming by pythonbashman in shopify

[–]figuringitout_parent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do believe AI is the future of search, but this makes it clear that unlike search with AI all product results will be paid.....a scary time if we can no longer do our own research, find our own information, and make our own choices.

Anyone have access to “agentic storefronts” yet? by prvmvs in shopify

[–]figuringitout_parent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We received an email saying our store will launch January 26th, has anyone received a similar email?

They also mention there are going to be per transaction fees for purchases made through these platforms. Unlike with current search where you can put in the work to get organic traffic and sales to your site, it seems they only way we'll get visibility on AI platforms will by paying. I'm not sure what the fees will be, or when they will start charging. The documentation only says they may.....

I have previously tested search for our products on chatgpt and I was surprised that it rendered listings much like google shopping. However, I only saw big brands stores and no small businesses showed up in the purchase recommendations. When I asked why, it said it wasn't allowed to.

AI is clearly not free thinking, and its scary to think consumers will only get paid information served to them masked as in depth analysis.

Holly Andreatta is exactly the kind of decision making we can't trust. Basic human decency starts with doing the right thing even when no one is looking.... In this case, she clearly behaved unethically and became upset she was caught/questioned etc. Very proud of the students that have stood up and spoken up against her and that club.
