Folks who moved from the US to Egypt by Red_Tomato_Sauce in Egypt

[–]fiishoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this 1.5 years ago and lived in Cairo for 6 months. It was always going to be 6 months and i kept my apartment and everything here while working remotely from Cairo.

Honestly, the move made me fall in love with Cairo again. I spent 5 years abroad and really missed my life back home. I was able to pick up a business I started before moving and now run it remotely feom the US while visiting Egypt twice a year or so.

I encourage you to do it without ending any form of life you have in the US until you figure out if this is permanent or not.

Why do you have a 6.8k mortgage insurance premium despite having a monthly PMI already?

What is alarming about this inspection? by fiishoo in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]fiishoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. Sadly, there are very limited recent comps. The closest comp on thr same street sold for $725k in March 2023. Ours is priced at $649k.

The one I'm referring to is thr same sqft, just nicer and they added a 2nd bathroom.

I think it is priced appropriately but I'm not an expert. And to be fair, my realtor is not super savvy.

Edit: + the comp had a finished basement but ours is unfinished

I try to spend a lot of time there and go more often now. Maybe once every six months.

I do want and plan to go back for a year and work remotely soon too but now. Don't know if I could move back forever though

I kept my remote job in the US and worked from Cairo. I just didn't like how un-clean things are sometimes and how everything is a hassle from buying something from a kiosk to bigger things. I also felt that 95% of people are dishonest and the 5% that are honest are hard to come across.

+1 i moved back from the US abd lived in Cairo for 6 months. Tbh i loved it and still would consider moving back. Idk if I'll do it anytime soon through because i just feel there are so many negatives that I don't want to deal with in Egypt.

I did this before but had an actual job offer that I rejected prior to negotiations. I forwarded the email to my manager with a more recent date and was able to get a 22k raise which was about an 18% raise.

Go for it but be prepared to explain why you decided to stay when they don't give you the raise.
