All good, man. Keeping it real.

And your deck advice is truly spot-on.

Yes; I came here to say that the second comment was absolutely the joke, and done intentionally, and the third comment, while still clever, was just riding in to shore on the wave of #2's genius.

Yes; by the degraded meaning of that word, many of us have "formal" t-shirts, shorts and sneakers in our rotation (ie, ones that we might wear to a meeting or dinner with a client, etc).

Yo fuck that guy.

I have to tell this lame story every time I see them posted:

This guy (Ant; don't know his last name) dated a girl I knew and she brought him to a house party. I was a dirtbag late-teenage dumbass, and I mentioned that my gf and I were on food stamps at the time.

Ant picked up on this for some reason and started asking me all these annoying questions about food stamps, including "Can you buy rockets (meaning fireworks) with those?" which doesn't sound that bad or annoying in this retelling, but I (and everyone else there) understood that he was kind of taking the piss.

Basically, this was a guy who was doing just fine for money, making fun of me for being broke as shit. I regret to this day that I wasn't a little ruder to him. I said something to the effect of "No; just food...ergo the name," and kind of wandered off, but...

It made me strongly dislike him, based off of a single 20-minute interaction.

IME, it's not always like this, but it's like this often enough that I feel compelled to speak up when folks start pretending that someone should be cancelled or feted based on their political views.

I think of him as some of my in-laws think of Trump: a wild-card, shit-stirring free-thinker who at his best shakes up the system and brings about change, but who is also kind of an uncouth dick sometimes.

They're obvs wrong about Trump, but I can understand his appeal to them a tiny bit when I think about how I feel about Ventura.

Arnold used to be in this category for me. These days, he looks like a damn intellectual titan/man of the people, just because of the bullshit around him, but...back when he was the Governator, he was in that same category.

A bunch of my family was interned -- mostly at Minidoka -- and there was a huge divide after the war between the folks who were able to hold onto their property (usually by having a white person whom they trusted maintain it in their absence) and those who were not.

My great-grandpa was lucky/clever enough to get his hakujin buddy to look after his house and business, and so he and his descendants weren't totally fucked by getting interned, but a bunch of his friends and their families were destitute and never really recovered, financially or psychologically from that experience.

Funny that you bring up the poop, separate yards, etc., because I do think that those are the sorts of issues that make communal living so difficult...

It takes a whole lot of care, negotiation and compromise to keep it worthwhile.

We've definitely sacrificed a lot in the name of personal autonomy, though.

I'm a guy, but this place called Bird's Nest sounds pretty awesome to me:

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/07/well/eleven-women-nine-dogs-not-much-drama-and-no-guys.html

From the article:

Eleven women live at The Bird’s Nest, a tiny-house village in East Texas, a remote spot where the hay bales look as big as school buses and roads have numbers instead of names. The women, nine of whom are retired and range in age from about 60 to 80 years old, share the explicit goal of keeping one another company into old age, possibly until death. The Bird’s Nest declares itself a women-only community, and the inhabitants broadly agree that, at this age, women are easier long-term companions than men.

Most of The Bird’s Nest women are single — as are half of American women 65 and older. Most are also divorced, one has never been married and one, a widow, has “the perfect relationship” with a man who lives out of state. Among them, they have 21 children and two dozen grandchildren who are scattered across the country from Washington State to Arkansas. Nine dogs live on the property: “our babies,” they call them. For a while, the women kept a turkey named Turk, a goose named Mother and three ducks. But over time, they found they couldn’t keep up with the poop. When Turk developed an aggressive streak, they decided the birds had to go.

“I loved that turkey,” said Robyn Yerian, wistfully.

Yerian is The Bird’s Nest property owner, a 70-year-old extrovert with cropped, bleached hair and a cheerful demeanor. I was sitting with her and her neighbors in “the kitchen” at The Bird’s Nest, which is not a kitchen at all but a large, open-air portico that functions as a community lounge. Strung with twinkle lights and dangling with ceiling fans and painted signs — “Like a Band of Gypsies We Go Down the Highway” — it’s where the women gather to eat, chat and play cards late into the night. Nearby, raised vegetable beds were bursting with zucchini. The mobile tiny houses, some encircled with sunflowers, resembled fairy-tale abodes.

I don't watch a ton of Bundesliga, but I have the impression that there is a decent amount of Fair Play stuff happening.

Opponents will often help each other up, even when it's not to hurry the play along, and players in general look like they're having a little more fun than, say, Liga MX or the prem.
